SHINee Shorts 2015: Sign Ups
This summer, shinee_replay is proud to announce that it will hosting the 3rd Anniversary of shineeshorts!
Shinee Shorts is an event where participants are challenged to write fanfiction with a rating up to PG-13. The fics will be posted in late September, giving us all something to look forward to as the summer comes to a close.
Rules
1. Stories must have a rating of PG-13 or lower. (No R or NC-17 rated stories.)
2. Stories must have a minimum length of 3,000 words. There is no maximum length.
3. Pairings for stories must revolve primarily around SHINee members (e.g. Onew x Jonghyun), meaning that you cannot have a crossover pair (e.g. Onew x Jaejoong) as the main pairing in your work. Stories may be gen though, meaning it may not have pairings involved.
4. All entries will be sent to the shinee_replay mod email address, replaymod@gmail.com.
5. AUs are allowed.
6. Stories, as much as possible, must be beta'd.
Deadlines and Other Details
Sign ups will be open until July 24, 2015
The first draft (minimum of 2,000 words) must be completed and turned in (with a summary and working title, may or may not be beta’d yet) by August 22, 2015. Your final draft must be turned in by September 12, 2015. It is ideal that your fic has already been proofread by your beta by the time you submit it, but if you're pretty confident that you can proofread your own work, then it's okay to not have a beta.
shineeshorts is still a new challenge for the SHINee fic writing community, as we've set ourselves not only a minimum word goal but also a maximum rating. The minimum word count of 3000 words makes this challenge a bit easier than shinee_replay but the rating challenge should keep things interesting for our authors as we find ways to tell our stories without veering into rated territory. We've put the summaries of the PG-13 and R ratings below for comparison.
PG-13 -- "Parents Strongly Cautioned. Some Material May Be Inappropriate For Children Under 13." The MPAA added this rating in 1984 to denote films in which violence, profanity or sexual content is intense enough that many parents would not want to expose their younger children to the film, but not so intense as to warrant an R rating. Any movie featuring drug use will get at least a PG-13 rating. A PG-13 movie can include a single use of what the board deems a "harsher, sexually derived word," as long as it is only used as an expletive, not in a sexual context.
R --"Restricted. Under 17 Requires Accompanying Parent or Adult Guardian": The Rating Board applies this rating to movies the members believe contain a high level of adult content, such as harsh profanity, intense violence, explicit sexual content and extensive drug use. In some states, the minimum age to see an R rated movie unaccompanied is 18.
Remember, PG-13 is essentially a mark between PG and R. This is more intense than Despicable Me (PG), but less intense than something like Shaun of the Dead (R). Some references to violence, drug use, and nudity are allowed, but are less explicit or detailed than you'd find in an R rated story.
