So. As I've mentioned several times, My Girl is my favorite drama of anything I've watched. It's has never stopped being amazing to me even on repeat viewing. Now, I don't believe it's perfect. (Though they are my favorites, the Hong Sisters' are far from perfect drama writers). But it is perfect where it counts so that's all that matters to me. =)
Onwards with my spoilery thoughts! =D
- It has to be said that I truly love how shameless Yoo-rin is. It's a mark of how much of a survivor she is. I mean, this is a girl who has presumably led a life on the run thanks to her good-for-nothing father. She knows that you have to grit your teeth and ignore your pride in order to live. But, speaking of her upbring, I always thought that this introduces an interesting dichotomy with her character. Yes, she's extremely street smart. She knows how to lie and cheat. But at the same time, she approaches life with a rather child-like innocence. There's some stuff later that reinforces this but, sticking to these early episodes, her attitude always struck me at pure, innocent yet worldly. It's awesome and it's why I love her.
- The less we speak of Tennis Girl, the better. The sight of her makes my blood boil. That's irrational cause at this point in the story, she's barely around and all we see are flashbacks to her and Gong-chan's happy relationship. Still. UGH AT HER.
- I love how Gong-chan is just...not sure how to react to Yoo-rin. He looks at her as if she's this alien from outer space. It sets up this hilarious dynamic between the two because he's smart enough to see through her ploys but she's so unpredictable that he's doesn't know what to do at the same time. IT'S GREAT.
Exhibit A:
Exhibit B:
- The first two episodes honestly have next to nothing to do with the plot of the drama. It's like a super long intro to Yoo-rin which is fun to watch but I'm already itching to get to story. The Hong Sisters, I think, have gotten better at "getting to the point" when their dramas are particularly plot-driven. (Not that any of their dramas feature complex plots but stuff like Best Love and Fantasy Couple revolve more around the main characters rather the story--ex. My Girlfriend is a Gumiho or You're Beautiful).
ARG! Why do I have to go to sleep RIGHT when it's going to start to get good? Arg. I want to do a write-up of Chun-hyang before I continue with My Girl so expect that before more My Girl goodness. =)
