Special to You

I once watched a Japanese fictional drama; for one of the episodes, a young pianist suffered from a damaged hippocampus. This meant he could not retain any new information, thus he could no longer create memories, but had memory of before his brain was damaged.  Everyday he would write music.  In the stead of his memories was his music.  For example, if he experienced something pleasant, when hearing his score from that day, he would feel at peace; or, if he experienced something frightening, the score from that day would invoke him with fear.

My point to this is that certain things in life mean more to someone that other things.  Those things reawaken special feelings within one's heart that similar object may not do.  In my previous post, you could say the Kanamaruza (kabuki theater) is one such thing.

However, for me, the thing that awakens my emotions more significantly than anything else is music.  Referring, again, to the same post, whenever I listen to Satsugekka, my heart explodes with emotion; memories of extremely sadness or joyous times come back to me; I think about my loneliness of now, and how being patient, kind, and loving will eventually bring someone to my side who can reciprocate my feelings.

After listening to it, I thought I'd share a few of the songs that are special to me.  I won't share with you what they mean in-depth, because I'd rather you listen to them with an open heart and see if you feel anything from them.  Of course, if you're curious as to why a song means so much to me, I will answer.  Also, if anyone is reading this, whoever you are, I'd love for you to share what songs are special to you.  Remember, I don't mean for music that is fun and "makes you want to party."  Something truly meaningful, that makes your heart skip a beat and your emotional state completely shift!  Something powerful like that, is what I'm talking about.

All music means something to someone.  There may not necessarily be a song out there that is beyond normal pleasure.  That's certainly understandable.  In my case, I find deeper value in certain songs.

"Better" by Shinee (reminds me of the time when a dear friend passed away - it really gets me thinking)
"Replay" by Shinee (friendship, people who mean a lot to me - sadness, hardships, love, perseverance)
"Start" by Shinee (uplifting - gives me a sense of everyone I love being with me to start a new day)
"Natsu da yo Honey" by Miura Ryosuke (instantly brings a smile to my face - I feel energized, for sure)
"Asu e no Speed" by Miura Ryosuke (same as his other song, he really cheers me up - smile~ tears~)
"Arittake no Ai de" by Gackt (turn a bad day right-side up - smile and be happy)
"Satsugekka" by Gackt (serenity - gives me time to think about all sad and cheerful things in my life)
"Pink Key" by Amuro Namie (hardships, when I'm in despair, don't give up, people are there for me)
"Heaven" by Coma-chi (painful but necessary memories, also of close ties - I ready myself to build a brighter future)
"Everything" by Big Bang (makes me think of all the people I loved in the past, love now, and will in the future)
"No Other" by Super Junior (life is what you make of it - smile, have fun, share yourself with others, don't be afraid)
"Beautiful Life" by DBSK (take it slow, relax, find what makes you happy and take the time to love yourself)
"Appa" by 2NE1 (makes me feel sadness, anger, denial, but then acceptance and strength to keep moving forward)

Some of these songs I would rather only hear once unless the mood calls for it.  Some of these songs I could listen to and feel ready for my next life (not to sound grim, I just mean if I passed that very moment, I'd feel at peace).

All of these songs slow things down for me.  Time keeps flowing, but I don't need it to pass quickly.  They stop me, take away what my mind's been wrapped up in, and let me think.  My senses are heightened, and my emotions are untangled.  I feel refreshed and ready to begin again at my own pace.

What about you?
