People leave me. I know it sounds cliched, but it's true. I can't hold onto friends for the life of me.

A year ago, my best friend and I were inseparable. Late night, super long-distance calls from me to her kept me sane during an extremely difficult living arrangement. She kept me grounded, reminded me that there would be consequences if I were to go completely ballistic on my roommates. Even though we lived in different states, we tried to visit each other as often as we were able.

And then about six months ago, she fell out of my life. She stopped coming online and didn't return calls. I had to track down her roommate to make sure she hadn't fallen into a ditch somewhere! When I finally got back in touch with her, we'd drifted so far apart that our only correspondence now is the occasional response on Twitter. She's moved on with her life, and I can respect that. I'm happy for her, but I'm also selfish.

I wanted things to stay as they were. I hate being the only person who stays the same when people are changing around me.

I don't think that makes you selfish, anon. Anyone would be kind of hurt in that situation. She's your friend, after all, so of course you'd want her to keep her in your life.

Mm, did she ever give you an explanation for cutting you off like that in the first place? It seems like it happened rather abruptly.
