Poll HELLO I AM ABOUT RP

Note that this is not just about the death of pandoradressing , but these kinds of situations in general. Also, consider this an appeal for advice. In essence, HAY HOW CAN I BE GOOD MOD? Various ways in which to minimize fail based on personal anecdata/experience, whether it was you or someone else that sucked, go!

It's kind of amazing that I've been watching a similar situation going on elsewhere. I voted for the second option!-- I see I'm the only one ahaha;; But since I couldn't select two, I'd probably try the first one first and if things didn't repair, I would opt for the second. A community needs a moderator that is approachable and willing to adapt for the needs of the community, so if I felt at any time I was unable to provide that, I would step down and allow for someone else who could :(

That's very reasonable! And this is... oddly a common scenario as far as roleplay - at least, roleplay on Livejournal - is concerned, so I'm not surprised you're seeing it elsewhere.

Yeah, it's kind of sad, but I mean... So long as people can grow and learn from these kinds of mistakes, I guess it happens. Concerning your last statement, I did once upon a time want to make a community for moderators all over to come and talk over the "how to be a good moderator" stuff, because I think the problem is that a lot of them just don't realize the kind of things that are expected of them. It's not just about what you do or even how you do it; the way you present yourself is very important. :(

I agree. One of the reasons I posted this was to foster some discussion, because unless people tell me directly, I have no idea what their expectations are. I can see myself being particularly dense about this as a mod, too. I can make rules, deal with technical issues, answer questions, keep the plot active and moving, and reprimand if need be, but there are little things that people seem to want from their moderators that I can't necessarily pick up on, so.

I think that comm is a good idea, but not sure how much participation you'd get given the popularity of rpanoncomm and whatnot.

/nodnod! And I mean, I think it's good for moderators to have a place to discuss things like that, since-- hey, if you don't know, you don't know, and even a little suggestion can really improve the whole moderation system. Maybe I will make that community :(;;

It's true that it may not do well, but ah, it's worth a shot anyway. Personally, I kind of like tl;dring about stuff like this and these kinds of discussions, so even if activity is minimal, if it could help even one person out, I think it'd be worth it :(a
