What a person does when he finds himself suddenly having a bit of free time reveals his personality! We created five situations that have a duration of free time and the members each thought of how they would spend that time. Also, starting from this issue, Matsushima Sou makes a comeback in MYOJO! All of them are all smiles and in high spirits ♪
MARIUS YO
1. As you are about to go out, a family member tells you to wait 10 more minutes.
- I’ll probably fiddle with my phone. I tend to reply late to messages from my friends and people I work with. If I had five or ten minutes free, I’ll probably use that time to reply. But you know, if there’s a valid reason, it’s fine with me, but if they prepared late, I’d probably be a little annoyed. I’d probably grumble like, “You already knew what time we were leaving since the day before, so why did you prepare so late?”
2. You were supposed to meet up with a friend at the train station but were told they will be 30 minutes late.
- I’ll go wander about a shopping mall near the station. And if I find a café where I can rest for a bit, I’ll go drink coffee and eat cake while waiting. I always bring my tablet when I’m out, so I’ll finish my college homework there.
3. You mistakenly arrived one hour earlier than you are supposed to.
- If the place is near my house, I’ll go back home and tidy up my room. My room is clean on Monday, but by Friday it becomes messy. There are ticket stubs left on top of the table, socks are left lying around, and my clothes are scattered. I’ll use it as time to tidy them up!
4. You have three hours until your next work.
I’ll ask my manger if I can go directly to the next location, then I’ll go somewhere near the next work location. I’ll go to a café in the vicinity, and while gracefully eating lunch I’ll finish my college homework. After that, I’ll go shopping. I’ll buy clothes and read foreign magazines. I think I’ll spend quite a lot of time at the bookstore.
5. You are suddenly told that you have the afternoon off tomorrow.
- I’ll borrow a rental car and go drive somewhere that has a lot of nature. From work, I’ll go home then borrow a rental car in a rental car shop near our neighborhood. Doing that will make it easier for me to go home afterwards. Since it’s the afternoon, Chiba’s seaside or Atami’s riverbank might be nice. Going alone is fine, or I’ll ask my older brother or my friends to come join me.
Marius and Time
- I manage my schedule using a calendar app on my phone. These days you can share your calendar to other people. I share a joint calendar with my friends from university, where we each fill in our plans so that people who are free can go out together. However, I don’t like making plans too precisely. I don’t purposefully try to squeeze in plans if I have free time. If I previously made plans but urgent business comes up, I’ll cancel all of it.
SATO SHORI
1. As you are about to go out, a family member tells you to wait 10 more minutes.
- I’ll go back to my room, but if I’m wearing street clothes, I can’t lie down, right? I’ll sit down on a chair and look at my phone to pass time. I don’t like being told to wait just when I’m about to leave, but I do a lot of waiting at work, so I’m quite used to it.
2. You were supposed to meet up with a friend at the train station but were told they will be 30 minutes late.
- Ehh, I can’t believe he’s suddenly going to be late… I want to avoid crowds, so first of all I’ll go to a nearby café. I always listen to music with my Bluetooth earphones when I go out, but cafes also play music so I’ll take them off there. Also because I might have to speak to the staff in the café. Rather than coffee, I’m the type that prefers straight tea. I might also add some lemon. After that, I’ll tell my friend “I’m in a café right now” and exchange messages to pass the time.
3. You mistakenly arrived one hour earlier than you are supposed to.
- Ehh, I’d never make a mistake like that! But if it ever happens, I’ll wander around nearby. I’ll go window shopping and maybe have a stroll.
4. You have three hours until your next work.
- I’ll definitely go home! It’s impossible to kill time for three hours outside. I don’t have anything to do. Watching a movie is no good. Rather than suddenly making plans, I’d go home and relax. I have a miniature dachshund, Chai, so if I have a little time, I want to play with my dog. Also, I might watch TV at home.
5. You are suddenly told that you have the afternoon off tomorrow.
- Half a day free is almost a day off. Since it’s a rare day off, I have to go out. I’ll get a haircut at the hair salon, and I’ll bring Chai in the car with me and go out. I wouldn’t suddenly invite my friends out. I’ll absolutely do something that I can do with Chai. I’ll go to a dog café or to the park. The hair salon also allows pets, so I bring in Chai on a leash and get my haircut while hugging her.
Shori and Time
- I’m using a schedule book app on my phone, but when my manager puts in work schedules it gets linked to my phone and I can review it, which is convenient. After that, I’ll add my personal plans. I even put in the time when home deliveries come. I don’t remember, so I check the previous day’s schedule book and get a grasp of one day’s course of events. I put alarms on all of my personal schedules. That way, I never forget!
KIKUCHI FUMA
1. As you are about to go out, a family member tells you to wait 10 more minutes.
- I’ll go back to the living or my room and space out. I’ll fiddle with my phone and read the news for that day… I’m the type that moves on time, but if I’m told to wait a little when I’m about to go out, I don’t really get annoyed.
2. You were supposed to meet up with a friend at the train station but were told they will be 30 minutes late.
- If I have to wait 30 minutes, I’ll look at a nearby clothing store or general store. If there aren’t any shops that interest me, I’ll go to a café. Basically, I’ll look for something to do around the area. If it’s 30 minutes I might be able to spend time just playing with my phone.
3. You mistakenly arrived one hour earlier than you are supposed to.
- For me, 30 minutes or one hour doesn’t make a difference. If there’s a shop that looks relaxing, I’ll go there, and if there isn’t, I’ll walk around the area. If I go to a café of some sort, I’ll order a drink and maybe take my time. I”ll listen to music, watch a movie, and pretty spend my time in from of my phone. If there’s something that I can do for work, I’ll do it in that time.
4. You have three hours until your next work.
- I often go to the hair salon if I have around this much free time. After that, I’ll take a peek at shops that I’ve checked before. I could also do work that can fit within that time frame. If I have nothing to do, I’ll go home. I’ll turn my switch off and sleep well. However, after three hours, I’ll properly switch on again so it’s fine!
5. You are suddenly told that you have the afternoon off tomorrow.
- I’ll firmly make plans to meet up with people. Once I find out that I have a half day off, I’ll contact friends that I don’t often have the chance to meet up with, and if my family is free I’ll invite them. Like that, if I suddenly have a free day, the people I invite are somehow fixed. In the current situation, we can’t really go on trips, but if I had a half day, I’d drive around and take it easy!
Fuma and Time
- I’m using a schedule book on my phone, but I want to fill it up with plans to the point that there’s no blank spaces. Even if I’m taking it slowly, I like to do things I’m supposed to do within the morning and have all of it finished before evening. These days, I know my work schedule about a month before, so I start to make personal plans from there. Depending on the day, I grab lunch, make tea, meet up with various people for dinner, and after that there’s also days when I show up at drinking parties.
NAKAJIMA KENTO
1. As you are about to go out, a family member tells you to wait 10 more minutes.
- I get ready quite late, so I’m the type that asks my manager to wait 5 more minutes… So if I’m told this, I won’t get annoyed. I’ll read novels or my drama scripts while waiting.
2. You were supposed to meet up with a friend at the train station but were told they will be 30 minutes late.
- First I’ll look for a café, then I’ll buy a caramel macchiato and donuts, then while eating I’ll use my tablet to edit videos. For my “KenTeaTime” series on Johnny’s Web, I edit videos and pictures every day. If I’m editing a simple video, it takes me about ten minutes to finish, so if I had 30 minutes of free time, it’s just right.
3. You mistakenly arrived one hour earlier than you are supposed to.
- I’ll get a head spa at the hair salon! You can have it done right away without reservations, so I always go to the hair salon whenever I have free time. I’ll contact my friend and tell him, “I mistakenly arrived early, so I’ll go get a head spa.”, then I’ll head to the hair salon. It takes about 50 minutes. There’s a huge difference in how my face looks when I have it done.
4. You have three hours until your next work.
- If I had three hours, I’d go to the gym! I like boxing, and I’ve been doing it for about four years now. I’ll spend the first hour doing muscle training, then in the next hour I’ll do sparring. I’ll do pull ups and shoulder stretches in between, so maybe I’ll do 3 to 5 rounds. After that, I’ll take a shower for 30 minutes, and then I’ll use the remaining 30 minutes to go to the work location while I drink a protein shake.
5. You are suddenly told that you have the afternoon off tomorrow.
- If I had half the day free, I’d go home and watch drama broadcasts the entire time. Recently, I’ve been watching “Itaewon Class”. There’s carbonara-flavored Korean fried dry noodles. If you add egg yolk and cheese to it, it tastes really good! So while eating popular Korean food, I’ll watch Korean dramas endlessly.
Kento and Time
I manage my schedule using an electronic notebook app on my phone. I fill up the gaps between my work schedules with personal plans. I use different colors for training, hair salon and hobbies, so it’s easy to look at in a glance. That way, I can move while looking forward to those plans and not lose focus. When I want to know what time is it in an instant, I look at my phone, and when I know what’s planned for that day, I look at my wristwatch.
MATSUSHIMA SOU
To all the MYOJO readers: It’s been a while! MYOJO is special to me because this magazine contains lots of memories from my youth, from climbing mountains and going overseas. I’m really happy to be back here again! I would love for everyone to open the magazine pages and feel how the five of us in Sexy Zone, as well as my 22-year-old self will grow from now on. I frequently exchange messages with the members now, and I think our bond has deepened even more!
1. As you are about to go out, a family member tells you to wait 10 more minutes.
- During the “stay home” period, I got addicted to YouTube. If I have 10 minutes, I’ll watch interior design videos while waiting.
2. You were supposed to meet up with a friend at the train station but were told they will be 30 minutes late.
- I’ll go buy my friend a small gift like a bubble milk tea or pudding somewhere near the station. He might be feeling guilty about being late, so I want to tell him “Don’t worry about it!” and hand him the gift.
3. You mistakenly arrived one hour earlier than you are supposed to.
- I’ll look for a nearby café, then while drinking a café latte there, I’ll watch Korean dramas using a video player app on my phone. After seeing the movie “Parasite”, I got hooked to “Crash Landing on You” and “It’s Okay Not To Be Okay”.
4. You have three hours until your next work.
- Did you know there’s bargain 1-hour message that you can get for 2,980 yen? After loosening out my body with that 1-hour massage, I’ll use the remaining 2 hours to do karaoke by myself! I’ll keep singing Johnny’s songs over and over. Among Sexy Zone’s songs, I often sing “Gyutto”, or Fuma-kun’s solo song “20 -Tw/Nty-” or Kento-kun’s solo song “Forever L”.
5. You are suddenly told that you have the afternoon off tomorrow.
- I’ll go home, and after napping for two hours, I’ll make myself hot coffee. After that, I’ll watch movies. If Shori is also free, I’ll go to his house and maybe have some good food. I always go visit, but Shori’s white rice cooked in a clay pot is the most delicious in the whole world!
Sou and Time
- I put in the time and place on my phone’s schedule book, but I’m careless when it comes to the time, so I don’t exactly move according to plan… I’ll find something dirty and suddenly go clean it (laughs). Kento-kun and Fuma-kun are the type that squeeze in a lot of plans, right? When I see that, there was a time when I thought it was scary that I didn’t have anything planned. But these days I think there’s no need to squeeze in so many things. Without planning anything, I can also spend the day doing whatever comes to my mind!

Welcome back Sou-chan! I’m celebrating his return by translating his first MYOJO appearance since his hiatus. Which is also kind of my return to translating as well lol. I hope to have more free time in the future for more projects, since I missed doing subs and translations.
