I can't believe it has taken me since December to finish this chapter of
Kaleidoscope. Actually, part of the problem is that the iceberg has calved yet again -- I posted an earlier draft of half of the first scene at
rt_morelove in January under the title
Taking Leave, but (because Remus just won't get on with it and leave, darn him ;) ) that title now

Awww, Remus' happiest memory is Tonks! But oh, that whole Patronus scene was lovely and sad. Poor wolf. Poor Remus. And poor Tonks! As always, you do such a good job of making both their opposing positions so believable - I 100% agree with Tonks (Remus has nothing to be ashamed of!) just as much as I completely sympathize with how Remus feels about his Patronus (a reminder of the part of himself he likes least).
And I second the comments above appreciating seeing Tonks with multiple, complex reasons for being upset in the HBP year - not just "oh, woe, I like a guy and he doesn't like me back" by a long-shot. JKR does Tonks such a disservice by creating this vibrant character in one book and then giving her no plotline but "mope drably in the background for hundreds of pages" in the next. It's something that I think, talk (and write!) a lot about, and a main motivation in how I've tried to write my own HBP-era story, so always happy to see someone else feels the same way. :-)
Congratulations on getting another piece closer to a complete Kaleidoscope!

Really glad to hear you find both characters' positions believable (given the characters) -- that's something I'm trying to pull off. And yay for more support for a three-dimensional approach to Tonks. Heh.
I don't think I wrote in enough about mourning for Sirius in the HBP pieces I wrote early in the process -- as I revise the older chapters, I may be looking for ways to reflect that subtly but realistically.
