Election Day

Nov 02, 2004 15:04

I wish I could vote- as a permenant resident, I do not have the right, and never feel it as I am feeling it today. I do believe I should have the right, but so it goes, I suppose. I just hope that people are going out and voting. I have been of the opinion that voting should be mandatory for some time (just like jury duty, eh? A civil duty!), and hope that the turnout will be higher this year than the last.

Oh, I am so stressed to hear the news tonight. This sense of anticipation, of waiting, is just making me tense and sick and I need to know what will happen, though already the stories of voter intimidation and unfair practises have been circling LJ-land for the last couple of times. I hope that Kerry wins, and by a large margin, since if it is so close again then we will all be back in recount land, where money is power, and influence rules all.

I wish I had a more positive outlook of the election, and the process (electoral college is so two centuries ago), but today my college campus woke up to find many flyers proclaiming that if one votes in PA then they lose their funding (those who have a home residence elsewhere, of course). This is... disgusting. It is trying to convince a student population more inclined to vote for Kerry to simply not vote, and that is plain wrong. Yes.

Well, I hope that everyone who can is voting today- after all, it affects all of us! All the residents of the US, of the world, really, given that the US is such a strong power. Please, please vote.
