my goings on...

1. the hair show in nyc. one sunday, me and my dad's girlfriend in a very crowded javits convention center, buying lots of items below retail. after at first thinking i wasn't going to learn anything, i met the devacurl founders (they have a fresh philosophy on cutting and caring for curly hair), and i'm taking care of my hair in a whole new way. it's a paradigm shift, not just a new technique. thanks to their wisdom, i've found a new stylist who actually knows curly hair. am i wrong to feel guilty for leaving my stylist of seven years without so much as a goodbye?

2. work is a rollercoaster ride. i'm whipping my coworkers into shape, introducing them to the AP stylebook and all but demanding to proofread everything that we produce. processes are being created, and i'm making sure we stick to them. they've been lax with sending stuff through our legal department before sending it to print. no more. of course, there's been all the hoopla with recent student lender lawsuits and horrible business practices, but we don't participate in these shady dealings. sen. ted kennedy has sent a letter to big lenders asking for info on our relationships with schools, and we're going to cooperate with the investigation. it's a bit tense at work, though, and i'm foreseeing an arthur andersen environment where every scrap of paper will need to be saved.

3. i've been a hermit. no, really. but staying in/being boring has allowed me to realize my latent goal of paying off my credit cards. come september, i should be credit card debt-free. this is a serious achievement for myself, since most of you have probably heard me complain about this debt at some point.

4. chris and i are taking a cruise to bermuda with dorothymonkey and beeporama in september. i need my boss to okay those days off, then we're booking it. how fun! i've never been anywhere remotely like this, and i've always wanted to take in pink sand beaches and an ocean so clear you can see the bottom.
