Came across
this article the other day claiming that folks who are more trusting are actually better at lie-detecting than people who are suspicious types.
Of course, I thought instantly of Nao. XD
(True or not, I think it's a pretty interesting observation and perhaps not as counterintuitive as it might seem on the surface. And Nao actually isn't the best example of this at work, at least initially -- because she starts out not just unusually trusting, but she more or less eventually admits that she was originally willfully turning a blind eye to human nature in kind of a childish desire to avoid conflict or have everyone get along. Of course, she's grown a lot since then -- and she definitely has a highly developed sense of intuition when it comes to people's true natures.)
I <3 Liar Game. I think I said this when I checked out/caught up with the series last year (rather belatedly), but game theory + psychology + sociology in one fun-but-intelligent package = <333333

eta: DETECTIVE CONAN.
OMFG.
AMURO WAS DATE'S FRIEND FROM THE POLICE ACADEMY???
I considered the possibility, but kinda dismissed it. ("Gosho wouldn't go there, would he? Nahhh.")
Ha. This sure throws a wrench into all the Bourbon speculation.
I am still pretty sure Okiya/Sera are the Akai siblings and Amuro is Bourbon, but I'm prepared to be surprised. One of them HAS to turn out "evil" if only because the series is getting ridiculously overloaded with smart allies for Conan... but this also instantly makes me about 1983057x more interested in Amuro as a character. (as opposed to him just being another bland pretty/smart dude)
Man, I am really digging the Takagi-Date-Amuro connection though. (Takagi remains the one adult character who's perhaps gotten closest to discovering Conan's true identity, if only inadvertently.) It would be great if everything comes together satisfactorily after all -- which I have been doubting ever since Sera's appearance, as much as I adore her.
Man. All the crow teases in this arc, too. And they turned out to be actually relevant to this particular case. XD GOSHO, YOU TROOOOLLLLLL.
Honestly I think Gosho's at his best when he writes competent-but-not-flashy adult characters. The ones with history.
(And to think Takagi was originally an anime-original character. XD)
Also, Sato is awesome, but we all knew that. :P
