Dammit, JAM.
Almost three years since I fell in love with Jam Hsiao (whose once bare-bones wiki entry now reads like a fangirl treatise XD) and his amazing voice on a Taiwanese talent show.
So I've been avidly following his CD releases (he's on #3 now), each time hoping that the Taiwanese music industry will finally wise up and manage to capture some of that raw power and magic that first wowed me, instead of churning out commercialized and over-synthesized crap.
Still disappointed. Still madly in love with his voice, and waiting patiently for him to unleash his full potential. Because when he does. It will be. EPIC. T_T
C/P-ed his latest CD (November 09) track list + credits from wikipedia. I guess they aren't letting him write his own songs anymore? (First two CDs had a few of his own songs, most of which were my favorites on their respective CDs.) Or is this entirely a CD of covers? (I've been hankering after a CD of his covers for SO LONG. and indeed two of his more famous covers, 新不了情, and 夢一場 are here. I am not familiar however with the other songs, but maybe fans of those other artists can clarify for me.)

All whining aside, I HAVE enjoyed all his albums thus far, this one included (this one has a lot of good songs). In fact his opening tracks on all three albums are all awesome, and I adoooore his attempt at singing a Taiwanese song this time around (#5). It's just... when I listen to 新不了情 and 夢一場 in this album, and then go back and compare them to one of his earliest official performances (i.e. post-amateur but pre-CD release status I think):

it just breaks my heart because oh god, this particular performance still gives me chills even now (especially the 新不了情!) and the CD versions are just so watered down. Wahhh.
(He also sang 回家 at this appearance, which is still one of my favorites of his covers ever.)
(Yes, I have pimped this performance before. :P)
eta: Oh, I THOUGHT #5 sounded familiar. It IS a cover... of one of my favorite
江蕙 songs. <333333 Ok, now I think this CD probably really is all covers -- which would explain why this album is my favorite so far.
