Cool beans

MM MM, Ho ming's East Asian Culinary Club had it's first meeting today at 10:30 am...and it wasn't just about logistics and meeting and greeting the heads. When I had arrived, they had already been cooking for half an hour. In the hot, fairly crowded room we chopped some potatoes, sliced some eggplant and after 10 minutes, a girl who had been working on some sweet and sour pork brought out her finished dish to try. And yummy it was, and gone it was in minutes.

next came Jian Ming's ginseng, spare rib and papaya soup which was slightly bitter but flavorful. If you believe that slightly bitter chinese soup provides health benifits..or if you just like tender spare rib bites, this was the soup for you.

stewed eggplant and potatoes were next up to try and these came out really nicely, between the four of us who were stirring it, cooking it, adding water to it, tasting it. I loved the texture of the eggplant and only wished there was more. the potatoes made the stew nice and thick. good ol starch.

After two cups of water followed, I was feeling pretty full and satisfied

...but then Karen saw some nice vegetables that Jian Ming had bought the day before and she just had to cook them! These veggies were long and looked like a mix between long string beans and scallions. She made a gorgeous fried egg. and then sauteed the chopped up green veggies. This made a beautiful green and yellow dish. And these little veggie bits were probably related to scallions because they had great flavor just by them selves, and yet had the dense texture of green beans :) yum i am a fan.

and now i have more cooking ideas for when i'm at home
