Horses need thumbs

Jun 04, 2013 09:38

Yesterday our stallion got his leg caught in a fence line and injured himself. Not only did he destroy the fence but he totally scalped his foot which needed immediate medical attention. Unfortunately all the large animal vets were on call and were unable to respond to an emergency call until late in the afternoon. As a result by the time the vet arrived the skin on the foot had died and contracted and could no longer be stitched back together and had to be removed. He is all bandaged for now but his leg will take a lot longer to heal and it won't ever be pretty. It would be nice if he could take care of it himself, but being as horses don't have thumbs, Bri and I will be managing changing his bandages until it is sufficiently healed. He's a fairly calm stallion, but that doesn't make it any less dange- ok it makes it slightly less dangerous.

Yesterday was also repair the tractor day. An oil seal on the transaxle busted. We got it from "leaking a lot" to "leaking just a little bit" which I guess is a win. Today is reconstruct the hay wagon frame which rolled over during a windstorm day! Yay!
