So after a long arduous journey I have made it to Texas. It is currently 12:18 Central time making it officially Christmas, I am so damn tired. Sorry it if I make no sense.
So our journey started on a cold day at 6 in the morning. Chris had the nerve to ask me if I was going to take care of the horses that morning as we were rushing out the door. We went on for a while and encountered several misadventures that first day. Most of these I don't remember due to the nature of a three day trip, but it essentially came down to this,,, Special. Events.
Slow slow slow slow slow slow. It seems road construction complete with lane crunching, spotlights and NO PEOPLE AROUND are a necessary part of interstate travel. I awoke from the rear bed of the RV at one point staring at the divider for a split in the interstate. Joe couldn't decide which way to go so the obvious solution was to stop in the middle of the interstate with semis behind us. The noise of an angry semi careening by with horns blowing is really what woke me up. I imagined my head being smashed in my a diesel radiator for the next 3 hours. It was revealed during our stop and go trip that there was engine trouble. The nature of the engine trouble is actually still a mystery. In any case we limped to Arkansas at about 35 miles per hour.
The next day we remained grounded due to this issue. Fortunately we made it to a Wal Mart near a family friend. We slept the night in the parking lot there. The friend met up with us the next morning where we followed her to her home. (I should note that, before this, we had a diesel mechanic come out and diagnose the vehicle with the wrong condition. We changed the fuel filter out and it changed nothing.) I spent the day getting to know the family including her kids which were very polite. She had horses too so I spent some time with one named Peek a Boo which seemed to like me a lot. Despite the total failure of any attempt to repair the RV, I had fun playing with the dogs and the horses and even riding ATVs in abandoned cow pastures nearby.
This morning we replaced the air filter (also failure) and limped out way to Texas after saying our farewells. Other than getting stuck in the parking lot of an Arby's/gas station combo while doing a mad rush to get food while quintuple parked in handicapped zones/fire lanes and an incident involving Joe getting lost on a detour due to listening to the on board AI Gertrude instead of his Shimdranian navigator which I would prefer not to talk about things went well... at 40 mph.
We made it to Texas... somewhere. I kind of wish I had taken Sherberth for moral support during these times. At some point we are going to meet up with Zyleeth. I don't know anything about itinerary. I just hang on to the rails and hope the ride stops soon.
It is hot as hell in this house.
