Finally in Xiamen, China!

Yesterday I arrived in Xiamen, China - my new campus for the next few months! It feels great to be back in Xiamen. I've walked around the Xiamen University campus a bit, revisited my favorite vegetarian restaurant from the week I was here last spring, bought snacks of sweet bean paste from the local bakeries (I'm going to have to be careful not to eat too many of these wonderful 4 yuan for 4 treats! >.>), etc. I'm pleased to find out that I have internet access from my room (something I didn't know for sure before I got here), although I had already braced myself for frequent trips to the local internet cafe (only 3 yuan an hour, so not too bad).

The flight here from Hong Kong was short, but went very smoothly. Apparently, Cathay Pacific waves any overweight charges if you are coming from America, no matter how long you've been in Hong Kong. So my little pre-SE Asia plane ticket from /way/ back on Jan 3rd came in handy! When the plane stuardesses found out that I didn't eat meat, they were the accomidating that I've ever seen. I wasn't going to ask for anything different, but they brought me a HUGE bucket full of vegetarian instant noodles. I must have been hungry, since I somehow ate it all.

The rest of the group flying from Florida are landing right about now. They'll be here soon. They'll all be exhaused from their long trip over here, but I know that they'll still be really excited to be here. Its going to be a great semester. I don't know what my schedule is going to be like yet (aside from what classes I'm taking), but I'll post more details when I find out.

Yay for Xiamen!
