I love finding wireless signals unexpectedly! (Somewhere near this hotel must be putting out a signal.)
Our first day in Thailand, and we had two lectures scheduled. The first one was about Intellectual Property rights, and why supporting pirates is bad for the economy, and why many Thai people buy pirated movies on the streets anyways. The second one was an 'Intro to South East Asia', which included some basic history (most of which I already knew, and was very bored during). But, starting around 3 PM we were free for the day - a good opportunity to browse the local shops.
There is a wide variety of international influence here. For example, this must be a very popular tourist destination for the Japanese. Many signs are in Japanese as well as Thai, and I've seen more Japanese restaurants (or at least ones that serve some Japanese food) than I've seen anywhere else outside of Japan. I also saw some statues in shops that were Ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Hindu. I came across a Ganesh exhibit of statues and paintings inside a mall area (although that exhibit also had a few paintings of naked lesbian encounters, so that just shows that you never know what you will run into around here!)
(And if that curry I tried was rated /one/ pepper, I NEVER want to know what two peppers is! That was too hot, even for me x.x)
