Je voudrais louer un Van?

I had an interesting weekend.  On Saturday, went to Conforama, which is the Swiss furniture store where everything "only lasts for two years", according to the local intellegence.  My roomate bought a sofa bed, and we couldn't get a taxi to take us back to the flat with it.  So we rented a van from the furniture store, and I got to drive, since I know how to drive a stickshift.  Lausanne has more traffic circles than the Jersey Shore.

On Sunday, my lab group went to Valais, hiking in the mountains in Verbier.  I took some pretty good pictures of the glacier on the peaks.  Then we visited our postdoc's home town, where we were treated to a dinner of roasted chestnuts, various cheeses, local apple sauce and her father's own wine. "Le roi au vins Valais."  Her parents recognized that my accent was from new york / new jersey, which I thought was impressive, given they spoke almost no english and I can't speak french.

Today back to work, organizing references for my thesis (bah.)  I also started reading Phillip Pullman, since I have never read His Dark Materials and the movies come out this winter.  Actually the real reason was it was the only reasonably light reading type English book at the FNAC.  Still have to find the English books store that supposedly exists in town.

I've been lame about posting pictures, but hopefully this week. .
