We've been trying as much as possible of the local food - the best food seems to come from local street vendors. My current favourite is nutmeg ice-cream, although it receives stiff competition from the roti, curried chicken or fish with potatoes wrapped in pastry like a tortilla wrap. Unfortunately the chicken rotis are so "authentic" they contain big chicken bones and it's as well to have a bone bag near to hand. Oildown is another local specialty, a kind of stew made with salted fish and coconut milk.

It's pretty strange going into the supermarkets and seeing salted meats, tripe, chicken feet, fish heads, pig trotters and other meats of the kind. You just don't really see that sort of thing in the UK any more. On the other hand, the variety of fish available here is much greater and includes lambie, or conch. It tastes a bit like really well cooked squid (i.e. tender, not rubber), but a little gamier. So no, I guess everything doesn't really taste like chicken.

Stangely one of the worst food experiences was at a restaurant. They had a choice of about 8 mains, but on enquiry they were out of both kinds of lobster, all other shellfish and all the fish, leaving us sitting in a Caribbean restaurant eating chicken and pork :)
