It's nice to have a bit of time off, and I'm still messing around with this film scanner. And watching movies. Thinking about venturing outside later today (Saturday) to do a bit of shopping. Hopefully the day-after-xmas shopping frenzy has died down a teeny bit. I haven't even been outside since xmas day.
Movies:
Used Cars (1980) (

Surprisingly raunchy for its time. Still very funny; Kurt Russell's got the used car salesman patter down perfectly. DVD has commentary and some other extra stuff. The dog is great. Hadn't seen this since watching it on HBO on its first run!
The Wings of the Dove (1997) (
amazon page)
A really good movie with great performances from Helena Bonham Carter, Linus Roache and Allison Elliott. I like it all the way up to the end, which is just not keeping in line with the rest of the movie. I'm not familiar with the book, but I doubt it differs. Saw this originally on the big screen when it came out. DVD is fair.
D-Day the Sixth of June (1956) (
amazon page)
Another movie that I like a lot until the end, which similarly doesn't keep in line with the characters motivations and actions. Oh well. Can't understand why Dana Wynter would choose Robert Taylor over Richard Todd anyway. More of a romance than a war film. This was my first time seeing this.
The Desert Rats (1953) (
amazon page)
Thought I'd pair up a couple of WWII movies. Hadn't seen this one before, either. I seem to be on a Robert Wise thing at the moment - this, Star Trek last week, and we also watched one of my favorite movies The Curse of the Cat People on the 26th. And if I do go shopping today I'm grabbing a 2-disc The Sound of Music before it's impossible to find now that it's out of print. Anyway, I digress. I've never been a big fan of Richard Burton. Thankfully, it's Robert Newton that makes this one worth watching. Oh, Burton is good, but Newton is better. James Mason doesn't get much to do. A decent movie.
I've also watched a bunch of Outer Limits episodes lately. I really enjoyed the one called "Controlled Experiment".
