it just wouldn't be fair to write about only the bad stuff and not the good stuff, so here goes:
after the alex-weekend-grr-argh situation, we decided to change things up a little. he was still trying to get away for the weekend, but we only talked in ifs rather than whens and didn't make any plans so there was nothing to mess up. on saturday just before 3, he calls and says everything's good, so i drove up to CFB borden to pick him up.
the funny thing is, i thought borden was a town of its own (because you can see it on a map) and that the base was near it and thus named after it, but it turns out that the base IS borden, since there are people that live on it permanently. and what a weird place to live! the roads are all named after military battles and decorated with tanks or various other large pieces of artillery. there is a playground for little kids, but the best park is the tank park (seriously). and my favorite part was the dilapidated helicopter just at the entrance to the place. it's enough to make you almost believe that the canadian military does something real...
anyways, i fetched the kid and we spent the drive back to my house trying to come up with something to do that evening but being incapable of reaching any conclusions. when we got home my parents were on their way out, but they said hello and talked for a couple minutes so the monumental "meeting the parents" thing is over. my parents both seemed to like him, as they used the words "smart" and "handsome" several times in reference to him, and that's pretty solid praise from them. so we sat around in the sunroom trying to decide what to do, and it was all sort of weird because i guess i hadn't seen him in a long time and i was feeling really shy! it's stupid but true; i was nervous to kiss him. strange. anyways, eventually we decided to stay at the marriott, made some phone calls and everything was good - we headed downtown and, after encountering the bestest bed ever in our hotel room, met up with aaron, katie, emma, and diya.
we waited around for a while because jasper was supposed to come (!) but he never showed up so eventually we left a note with the desk as well as instructions to flag down any tall, hot, blond boys, and went to the green room. new thing i learned that day: the green room has an upstairs. we split a couple pitchers of sangria and some food, then decided it was time to change venues. when we got out to bloor, there was nayha's friend kim. so i told her the news (nayha got into medschool at UofT; i probably already told you that) and directed us further west along bloor when i asked her for a nice place with cheap drinks.
katie and aaron left to go home, and the four of us ended up on the rooftop patio at paupers pub - pretty, lively, and they have strongbow on tap! a couple more drinks later and it was past 1, as in take-the-subway-home time. alex and i dropped by gabby's for one last (totally unnecessary) pint and then made it back to the hotel.
the next morning we meant to get alex to finch in time to take the bus back to barrie, but things being as they are (and that bed being so damn awesome) it was too late and so we drove back to borden together... had lunch in the ghetto... found a little park/river thing... made it back to his place at 3. the end.
p.s. about that hotel thing, don't tell my parents. i have no clue who would actually tell my parents that i stayed in a hotel with my boyfriend, but i'm going to say it anyways because i would rather be pedantic than banished from my household forever. thank you.
