Utada Hikaru in Budokan 2004 Hikaru No.5 // Char's First Roation

Aug 08, 2004 20:46

Oh wow. It's taken me an overly long time to update this with my songs, ne? Apologies. ^^; I have a few tweeks to make to my file list, and everything should be up to date.

ANYWAY, this rotation features one of my favourite vocalists, Utada Hikaru. With an upcoming English debut, where she's known only as "UTADA", you can be sure that she's going to be around for quite a while. Already a chart-topper in Japan, her work blends different muic style together to make an appealing sound that's simple to enjoy.

The files here are some of my favourites from one of her live concerts earlier in the year. (I'm not really a fan of "live" tracks, just as a note.) These files can be retrieved via Yahoo! Breifcase, using shikin0uta as a username, with addictedtoyou as the password. To get the mandatory disclaimer out of the way, these are for trial purposes only and should be deleted after twenty four hours. Thanks, and moving on, the songs here are..:

I) LETTERS - 4.9MB - 5min 19sec
hana ni namae wo, hoshi ni negai wo, watashi ni anata wo...
"Letters" is a song that's pretty hard for me to describe. There really isn't one SOLID genre I think that this fits into, in my opinion. The vocals are very smooth, and the music that accompanies it further adds to the overall feel of the song. There really isn't all that much of a difference between this live version and the original, as far as I can tell. Still, that doesn't stop it from being an enjoyable song.

II) COLORS - 4.2MB - 4min 31sec
aoi sora ga mieru nara aoi kasa hirogete. ii janai ka? KYANBASU wa kimi no mono.
"Colors" seems to have this not-quite-pop feeling to it. I can't help but say that I really relate to the message this song is trying to send, so perhaps that's why I like it so much..? ^^; This song isn't -quite- all that old, so hopefully, this gives us a view as to what's to come in the near future from Hikki. This version seems to have (slightly) heavier purcussion than the orchestrated and originals. Char's Pick Of The Update

III) FIRST LOVE - 4.3MB - 4min 35sec
You will always be inside my heart. Itsu mo anata dake no basho ga aru kara..
Ah, the old stanard. One of Hikki's first huge hits, most people have heard this before. While it's not really high on a personal ranking, this is a nice pop-ballad that won't really leave you dissapointed. If you can understand what's being sung or not, the meaning behind this song is quite clear, and easy to understand no matter who you are or what you've been though. Very catchy, though slightly depressing. Ah, anyway..

IV) DISTANCE - 4.3MB - 4min 36sec
Aetai noni ienai nami ni osarete, Mata sukoshi tooku naru
This is the upbeat version of this song, and is considerably less of a downer than "FINAL DISTANCE". Quirky pop song that's easily stuck in your head.

Thanks, and adieu until next time. ^^ Comments / suggestions / requests are welcome.
