Hello 2007!

Jan 01, 2007 02:15

Well well, doesn't this look familiar...? *L* I find it kind of astounding that this will actually be the fourth "first post of the year" I'll be writing in this journal... time was that I couldn't keep up a journal for more than three months ^^;;;

'06 will be remembered for a great many things... and unfortunately, most of the "major" events weren't exactly pleasant... =P

But, as they say, that was the year that was... and since it hasn't managed to kill me quite yet, I'd like to think I'm just a bit stronger for the whole ordeal ^^v
  • My last year as an undergraduate~!! -- While I inevitably have quite a few more years of postgrad studying to do, I'm glad I finally have that piece of paper that says I'm qualified to actually start learning how to do my job *L* Oh the irony...
  • Getting a grad position I'm happy with -- After the nightmare that was grad recruitment, being able to say that is a big relief ^_^
  • Mum being diagnosed and treated for thyroid cancer -- the "event" that almost derailed my mid-year exams =P But Mum's recovering nicely so I'll simply be thankful that we both made it through okay.
  • Fourth car crash (and actually my fault this time =P) -- the second "event" that almost derailed my mid-year exams... and $5500 worth of damage which teaches me NOT to attempt driving when I'm feeling "not all here" due to a combination of too little sleep + too much stress + too much caffeine.
  • My grandfather passing away -- the "event" that almost derailed my end-of-year exams (are we seeing a pattern here?? ^^;;). I think what made this suck even more was that it happened five days after I'd booked end of year plane tickets to go and see him... So going from being really excited that I could call and tell him an actual date when I would land, to being told that he'd died was... not nice.
  • Family politics -- because that sucks no matter when it happens... but even more so after a death in the family... doubly so when it takes place over long-distance phone conversations... and triply so when I'm just about to enter exam territory =P
  • Manifest 2006 -- from which I walked away with more money than when I went, thanks to a fortuitous little shipping mishap from Amazon Japan, said Amazon's excellent refund/return policy, and the masses of Death Note fans present this year ^_^ Also love to my fellow Team Hokage members as always~!! Four years in a row!! *sends hugs*
  • Spending my birthday in Shanghai -- for the first time in fifteen years ^^;;;
  • Japan 2006 -- and because I'm too lazy to recount the adventures that this title entails, please refer to previous entry *LOL*
  • Preparing to move house -- i.e. the reason I've been aching all over for the last week or so =P
  • And the loads and loads of things I managed to acquire over the year -- I should actually tally how much I funnelled into Amazon Japan alone this year ^^;;; the figure promises to be scary... especially when considered in conjunction with what I actually spent in Japan *L*
It's been quite a year... and while a lot of it sucked for the most part, I'm glad that there were people (*hugs to all my friends*) and simple pleasures (*love for Bleach and Host Club*) to keep me sane and see me through ^_^ Also glad that the last seven weeks or so of the year ended on a more positive note.

And thus, it comes time to put away my gorgeous Bleach 2006 calendar, break out my equally drool-worthy Bleach 2007 calendar (marking the first time since I started buying manga calendars that I've had two consecutive years from the same series *LOL*) and wish everyone a safe and happy 2007~!!
