JUMP just announced Obata Takeshi's new artbook,
Blanc et Noir, for a May 2 release. It's expected to be filled with Death Note artwork, which is all well and good because Death Note art is damn pretty and well worth having on my shelf.
So everything's pretty much fine and dandy... until you got a good look at the yen price...
4935 yen (inc. tax). *falls off chair*
That is simply insane for an artbook when you realise that most (nice) artbooks retail for around the 2-3000 yen range. As for the high-end products, the hard-covered and damn gorgeous X ~ zero only has a yen price of 3780. And even Sai -- beautiful, hard-covered, B3-sized monster that it is -- only clocks in at 3990 yen. The only artbook I know which comes anywhere close to that yen price is CLAMP's Tenmagouka at 5040 yen. And when you think about what Tenmagouka looks like, anything on par to that would have to be damn fine!
Will eagerly await more details to be released as to how many pages and stuff it'll come with -- I'd be expecting a hard-cover and a slip-case at the very least. But for now, all I can say is that for what I'll be paying for it, it had better EARN its place as the most expensive artbook on my bookshelf =P
Although, this may actually not be hard considering that it's being billed as an Obata Takeshi Illustration Work, and not as a Death Note illustration work... Because if the distinction has any meaning, it will earn its way onto my bookshelf simply by virtue of having those colour images from Hikaru no Go that were produced after Sai was released *hearts* How long I've waited for them~~
Please please please please please... *crosses fingers*
