Summary: Hermione wakes up in a unusual place.
Notes: I wrote this earlier this year and only just realised that I never posted it here. A drabble in an attempt to break my dry spell.
The ground underneath her was rumbling. Sort of vibrating, as though a kindly giant was purring below. Something tickled her nose.
'Okay, Crookshanks,' Hermione murmured. Without opening her eyes, she reached over to stroke his head.
Her fingers brushed over the familiar but unexpected roughness of parchment and onto smooth, unknown texture. Hermione opened her eyes, confused.
It took a moment for her to adjust to the strange, single point of light focused on the parchment before her. Her notes lay on the tray table in front of her, a pen flopped over halfway through underlining 'Finite Incantatem will only lift the spell on the surface level.'
Hermione's eyes darted across the aisle to the sleeping Muggles around her. Her head jerked up and her fingers were halfway to her pocket, searching for her wand when a soft snore blew gently against her ear and Ron mumbled, 'Hermione, relax.'
Hermione remembered that she had, prior to boarding the flight, already performed the Concealment Charm on her notes. She glanced at Ron, still deep in slumber with his mouth lolling open slightly, and shuffled her notes into a pile. She'd continue with them later.
Ron's arm was propped against the arm rest between them. Hermione lifted it carefully and - very daringly, she thought - laid it around her own shoulders. A push of a button snapped off the overhead light and she leaned her head back against Ron's shoulder.
Hermione smiled and let the low, comfortable rumble of Ron's snores lull her back to sleep.
