Summary: Don't we all wish we could do a little magic when we're caught in the rain?
Notes: Yes, I was caught in the rain. Stuck waiting for the shower to pass when I wrote this.
The skies opened up as they were halfway across the shortcut home from the general store. Petunia shrieked and broke into a run, but there was nowhere to run to, really. Just the empty, grassy field, the nearest shelter half a mile either way. She stopped and Lily caught up to her, the packages she was carrying banging against her shins and raindrops pelting her in the face.
Petunia looked in dismay at her sodden shoes, which were becoming spotted with brown as the rain ricocheted off the dusty ground as little muddy bullets.
'Don't you have some sort of -- you know, to keep us clean and dry?' she said plaintively.
Lily opened her mouth to remind Tuney of the underage laws, then closed it again as a gust of wind swept her hair into her face and sent a deluge of drops stinging against her skin. Would a little Impervius and a drying charm really hurt? No one was around to see, anyway, and it was easy, harmless magic.
Her hand shifted instinctively towards the pocket where she stowed her wand, liking to keep it near even if she couldn't use it, but before her fingers closed around it, Petunia let out a loud, exasperated sigh.
'Never mind,' she sniffed, and turned away to trudge off in the direction of home.
Lily fought off the temptation to use her wand and followed her.
