2019 Fic Year in Review

Dec 31, 2019 16:54

Seeing as it’s already the fourth, this is going to be abysmally late, but I’m going to backdate to fit the year. But not making any pretence of having done it on time!

Fics Written This Year

1. The Impossible Maze (PJO; Annabeth, Gen) (Technically 2018’s, but officially completed in 2019)

2. The Final Sacrifice (PJO; Annabeth, Gen)

3. The Problem With Boys Automatons (PJO, Annabeth/Percy, Silena/Beckendorf)

And yes, that’s it. Unless you count my NaNo project, which is in draft anyway, I basically worked on finishing DoW, period.

WiPs (plenty of this may be permanently WiP at this stage ...)

1. Seasons of Change (12 years stalled!)

2. Cafe AU-yup, still there.

3. Bianca's fic-also still in the draft folder

4. Grey's Anatomy AU-ditto

5. 2018’s NaNo (which got to 50,000 within the month I was writing it, but only halfway through the actual story plot. It’s now stalled at the precursor to the climax event.)

6. The untitled MoA missing moment that is still in my notebook *facepalm* <- exactly as I said for two years running.

7. The two documents on my phone that were ideas are still there as well, but if they remain there next (end of this) year I’m pulling them from the list as I’m not sure stuff in idea stage without actual drafted writing should really in all fairness be considered WIPs

8. Something I recently found in my notes that was a plot for a THG fic called Inferno, that is basically the Quarter Quell from the other district tributes' PoV, and I'd written Seeder's section but nothing else. <- this hasn't changed either.

9. A spin-off from TFS that is meant to be called The Golden Mango, that will probably be permanently stalled now.

10. Another TFS spin-off (actually, there's four)-this one is kind of a prequel that didn't make it into the actual long fic, but has a vague plot idea but about 500 words of writing, so it's another big question mark as to whether I'll finish it in time-that actually moved a teensy bit but again is unlikely to continue.

11. The Diary of Halcyon Green, which I am very close to completing actually, so I should just get off my ass and do it.

12. This year’s NaNo (okay, 2019 anyway) that was actually a win with the story plot wrapped up, so that’s something. It needs a hell of a lot of editing though.

No. of Fics (> 1,000): 3

No. of Ficlets (300-1,000): 0

No. of Drabbles (< 300): 0

WiPs worked on this year: Finished two, moved the last NaNo about another 20K words, and wrote a new NaNo, plus a two-chapter that’s near completion so it’s generally productive even if the completion count is abysmal.

Altogether: 3 (not counting WiPs)

Pairing written most often: I’m just going to say genfic. My originals are, certainly. But there’s heavy percabeth in the PJO ones so ... up for debate, I guess.

Character written most often: Annabeth, for the fanfic.

My favourite fan fic this year:
Written by me: The Final Sacrifice, almost by default. But it wrapped up a long project so it would have been a contender in its own right anyway.

Read: Have read a sum total of 0 fics this year (except beta reading-and won’t comment there), so I won’t even try.

My best fan fic this year: The Final Sacrifice, no contest.

Most fun writing: The percabeth scenes in TFS.

Sexiest fic: Chapter 35 of TFS ;)

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: The Diary of Halcyon Green, though it’s still a WIP, really concretised my understanding of Hal and Luke.

Hardest fic to write: The 2018 NaNo, I think. Still struggling to get to end game with that.

Biggest disappointment: I don’t think anything I actually posted was a disappointment, and although I wasn’t so prolific with fic, I think it’s a combination of me and the core following both moving on after a good journey together. Be a shame not to leave on a high.

Most telling fic: The Final Sacrifice. It did all the things I wanted it to.

pjo, fic, writing, 2019!reflections, memes
