Ten years ago today I got a livejournal for the first time. This was before codes, just barely after early adopters, and made me, I think, the third person from our mailing list to join up, signalling what later became a fairly comprehensive migration. I'm still friends with almost all those people, too.
I was half-assedly planning to do Something for a tenth anniversary, but frankly my heart is really not in it right now. As I'm sure the non-Kiwi contingent is aware by now, yesterday Christchurch suffered another horrifyingly large earthquake, and this time we were not so miraculously lucky. Pretty much most people are compulsively checking the news services and social media sites, and trying not to freak out too badly. I have been extremely lucky -- so far as I am aware, everyone I would reasonably have expected to be in danger had checked in by late last night and is okay. Many people have not been. Thank you so much to everyone who's been thinking of us, checking in to make sure people are okay, and donating money (the Red Cross is the main pipeline right now; for more ideas on legitimate charities to give to (as I believe the site has been hiccuping with heavy use), please check the "what can I do to help?" link in the top right corner of www.stuff.co.nz -- they're updating constantly and tend to do their legwork as well.)
At some point I would like very much to post about Melbourne and Shihad and the Like and my week so far (and the triffid that's trying to grow into the flat, and so on and so on) but now doesn't really feel like the time. Take care of yourselves, people; I look forward to hopefully spending another 10 years of awesome times with you all, at least. <3
