"I solved your problem. In my spare time. With FINGERPAINTS."

May 19, 2007 19:23

I got to see Kat this afternoon for the first time in, like, forever, which was oh so very yay. And we thought up crack (like usual) and giggled (like usual) and one-brained (like usual, though occasionally we swapped vowels) and then watched McKay and Mrs Miller (oh SHOW) and the first bit of Submersion before I had to go to dinner. And we maybe a little bit accidently worked out some rationale for Daniel/Ronon. Mmm. And, also, a few things that struck us on watching MMM again:

1. Jeannie and Caleb clearly have a PIANO. Where is all the fic? Where?
2. That song playing over the beginning is super familiar and driving me crazy. Does anyone else recognise it/know it to be similar to something else? I'm thinking it's something Whedonesque but I'm not sure.
3. Oh my god, our show has LAYERS. Like an ONION. A geeky, geeky adorable onion (I know, such a sentence will never pass my lips again, because me and onions = the anti-OTP) because I finally realised what that scene up on the Daedalus near the beginning is a ripoff ofhomage to: when Sam, Rodney and Jeannie are looking out the viewport at Earth, with the camera on their backs? It's absolutely the scene from near the end of the Empire Strikes Back. It IS. It even has siblings! Show for the WIN.
4. John is so the sister-in-law. And the body language supports this! *grin* /tin-hat
5. Stargate is sometimes kind of a lot like fandom, except with actual explosions. (Ridiculously attractive people in absurd situations! Come on, that's pretty much LIVEJOURNAL a lot of the time! *grin*)

Me: *flails about that Thing that Joe just did with his hips, at the exact same time as--*
Kat: John! Learn to stand like a straight man one of these days!
Me: Because, yeah, eventually? People other than us will catch on!
Kat: Us and Rodney.
Me: I bet we twigged before Rodney, though.
Kat: Well, yes.

Also about ten minutes in she innocently checked that I had seen the clip of David Hewlett as Ronon which I HADN'T so then we had to pause so I could flail over that. I maybe made noises only dogs can hear. (Dear Jebus on a piece of french toast, the BOXERS. Jason wouldn't LEND HIM HIS PANTS. MARS!) But moving on. :D

And then I had to go have dinner, so Kat left, and now my face still hurts from smiling so much, and... yes.

In unrelated news, my order from goodbooksnz arrived on Friday which was excellent timing because I was a hairsbreadth away from utterly having run out of things to reread, so now I'm nearly done reading Swordspoint for the first time, and am thoroughly enjoying it. How did I get through my adoloscence without even having the faintest idea this book existed? I should've been all over it like vegemite on Australian toast! I gather mum is about to go get a video out, so I may actually skip out on trying to catch up a bit more and socialise there, but I will, as has been so eloquently said by other people on the flist, eventually read all the tabs I have open and catch up. Honest. *advertises holiday homes in Florida only a little bit* :D

[EDIT] In the interests of not losing them forever if my phone decides to eat all its text messages before I can write them down I'm also putting up here my two quotes-of-the-week-thus-far.

Kat: I was about to ask what it is about girl!Rodney that makes it so much the best thing ever until I realised: BOOBS. Oh, Rodney.

One of the guys at work: (as the Windows crashes for the third time) Lucky Microsoft don't make cars.

The sum total of my ambition for tomorrow is to 1. sleep and 2. walk down to check out the Sunday markets behind Northcrest, cos I've been meaning to forever and still haven't done so. And then I want to work on flashfic because my brain's been far too much like mud to even remotely consider that any earlier this week. *fails out of Can-fandom omg* And, well, secret ambition 3 I am all torn on, because I have one disc left of Sports Night and so I want to watch it, but then it's OVER. Woe.

Finally, if you haven't already and are familiar with the source text, you should go read mrsronweasley's Four Weddings and a Funeral story Scribbling in the Sky because it is seriously beautiful and just so damned good. I have already burbled incoherantly at her, which means now I am filled with an overwhelming need to share it with everyone ever. Thank you and good night.

recs, kat, quote!, sga
