Post Cherry Weekend Art Dump

Apr 09, 2010 19:27

*flops over* Ugh~ longest weekend ever. Relatives came to stay and we all went off to see the Cherry Blossom Festival (yeh, I live near Washington DC ^^;). It was fun, but tiring. I will say I had a couple small spatterings of inspiration from touring DC and I couldn't help but draw a couple things while curled up on the couch trying to sleep ^^; Strangely, it wasn't the cherry blossoms themselves that were inspiring (not that I didn't take over 200 pictures of those XP), but the FDR and WWII memorials (as well as the Washington Monument XD). We met a WWII vet at the WWII memorial actually, dressed in full uniform while a younger officer pushed him around in a wheelchair. (And by met, I mean secretly listened to him tell his story to a couple young'ins because I was too shy to talk to him. ^^; I think he knew, because he grinned at me.) So yes, I'll tack on the two pictures I took that helped inspire me to do a couple of these pics and the comic. ^__^ Then we can move on.

Title: A Long Walk
Warnings: None
Summary: The concrete path from the curb to the front door was the longest he had ever walked.
A/N: My grandmother told me that back in the day, whenever someone had someone in the war they would hang a flag with a red and white background and a blue star. However, if the star was gold that meant the person had died.

Title: After the Walk
Warnings: None
Summary: America breaks down one day after delivering a gold star.
A/N: Now I'm not one to think that America gets upset that often (no matter what my gag comic indicated last time), but even I think that a nation's got to have his breaking point sometime. I thought about coloring this in, but I realized that it needed to be rough and raw for it to convey the image I had in mind.

Title: Public Castration
Warnings: Innuendo?
Summary: It's 1848 and America's decided upon the perfect design to commemorate George Washington's birthday. However, sometimes plans can go awry.
A/N: So this is a completely true story. The Washington Monument is made from two different colors of stone. You can't really tell unless you're up close to it, however. The reason for this is that the American Civil War happened to occur right in the middle of construction. And afterwards they couldn't get the same kind of stone anymore. XD So it's a little odd looking, tell the truth.  Also, England's being mean, but that's okay, because it's historically canon.  ^___^

Title: America, Meet India. India, Meet Democracy.
Warnings: None
Summary: England tries to make America jealous... and epically fails
A/N: I did say I would try to do a Bollywood pic and honestly, this is probably the closest I'm going to get. ^^; I'm not sure whether Himaruya-sensei already created India or not (in all likelihood, he did), but even so, this is what India looks like in my head.

Title: To Be...
Warnings: None
Summary: England plays the Danish Prince.
A/N: I have to admit, the idea stuck and I couldn't get rid of it. ^^; I do adore Hamlet though. But especially Kenneth Branagh's unabridged version of Billy Shakes awesomeness. XD
