Wagahai wa Shige de Aru Returns (2006.12.17)

Oct 22, 2007 10:56

Due to a request and a great deal of personal interest, I dug back at the http://www.shigeaki-kato.com forums and found the post!

They appear to receive their translations from N.B.J. and are translated into Chinese by Maruko. I was going to wait for permission, but since it isn't forthcoming, and the N.B.J. site is really hard to navigate, I'm going to lock this entry and delete it if they give me the thumbs down. Conversely, I'll unlock it if they give me the thumbs up. This seems the best plan of action for now. Everyone will at least know what he said. XD

ETA: Yay! The mod who runs nbj_jweb has kindly given me the green light.

Keep in mind that this has been translated from Japanese to Chinese to English, and given that I neither have the original post nor do I actually understand Japanese, I can't vouch for complete accuracy. x.x

That said...

Hello, everyone! I'm Kato Shigeaki!
Nishikido-kun's web series has started.

When he introduced Tegoshi, I kept hoping, "Don't let me be next." Who knew it would be my turn so quickly...

What do you mean there's no material to write about

(1)
If there isn't any, then just introduce me last

Although I think like this, the interlude with Nishikido-kun appears in my mind (2)

This is rare, so let me turn around and introduce Nishikido-kun a bit.

The first time I met Nishikido-kun...
No, the time I saw him, I was in my 6th year of elementary school, Nishikido-kun was in his 3rd year of middle school.
At that time, I just entered the jimusho, but Nishikido-kun had already started singing onstage.
"That guy is so great at singing

"

Sorry. The first time I saw him, I didn't think he was 3 years my senior.
After that, I only saw him at concerts and other similar occasions.

There was once a time when, led by a very impressive figure from the jimusho, I ate tempura with Nishikido-kun.
Although, Nishikido-kun might not remember...
It's disappointing...
But at that time, Nishikido-kun was softly singing, that humming was very pleasant, very kakkoi (3), it left me with this kind of impression.

And then, just like this, NewS was formed.
When we met that time, my impression was
1. Blond hair
2. Very harsh
3. But with a very manly spirit
Just this kind of feeling.

The first time I encountered Nishikido-kun's caustic remarks, to be honest, it wasn't easy to reply.
He was the only member it was hard to converse with. (4)
After that, because of a working relationship, we talked together a lot.

The most memorable moment was one time I was talking to the dance instructor.

The dance became too long, so it needed to be simplified. At that time,

I insisted that, "It definitely isn't my fault."

The members also told me, "It's not Shige's fault."

...But Nishikido-kun was the exception.

Only Nishikido-kun said to me, "It's your fault." Very straightforward.

Hearing him admonish me like that, honestly at the time, I thought, "Why are you saying it's my fault!" I didn't understand what it was supposed to mean.
But not long after, it occurred to me that,
"Maybe it really is my fault."

Using that kind of attitude and language towards an older dance instructor (5),
Maybe Nishikido-kun discovered this arrogant side of me,
So he reminded the me who was too pleased with myself.

Only that person said words to remind me, it's made a deep impression in my heart (6).

When I'm annoyed, only Nishikido-kun calls me when he finds out (7)
There have also been times when I forget myself and become a typical example that Nishikido-kun uses in conversation.

Although he doesn't talk that much, but maybe he's unintentionally watching (8) me.

He must be more sensitive to things close by than anyone, that guy.

All told, I'm very thankful to Nishikido-kun.

Although I say this, I'm not very clear on whether or not he actually takes me into that much account.

Ah~ It feels like I've ruined Nishikido-kun's reputation.

You've also said things like how I have sucky hair.

Never mind. Please continue to look after me, Nishikido-kun.

Ah~ I'm very stubborn. Sorry...

Translation Notes:

1. ...This must be what NewS means when they say that Shige abuses exclamation points. x.x >.< XD XD XD

2. It's more like "surfaced in the ocean of my mind," but it's a really common phrase in Chinese, so I didn't want to make him overly poetic. I really have no idea why I'm pointing this out. x.x I think because it's usually the other way around. XD

3. "帅气." Er. I'm guessing, kind of, what he actually meant by this. XD The Chinese equivalent to "kakkoi" is "帅," and "气" just means "air," so technically, it's "with a kakkoi air." But traditionally, "帅" just means "handsome." "Humming with a handsome air" weird sounded odd, though, so I figured that's probably the description he used.

4. Asian languages and the lack of pronouns! Usually, it's pretty obvious who's being talked about, but I'm really not sure here. He's either saying that he found it hard to reply then because he himself was a quiet guy, or it was hard to reply that time, and Ryo is just hard to talk to in general. Given how Shige is usually characterized, I figured it might be the latter... But on the other hand, he also used to be a lot more awkward. -_-;; If anyone has the Japanese and can clarify...?

5. The emphasis here is actually that the dance instructor is older and more experienced. Asian cultures are big on respect for elders, no matter how big the gap. Compounding it with the fact that he was using a very arrogant tone, Shige was being really rude and insolent.

6. The phrase literally means "carved deeply into my heart," but that sounded creepy. x.x I couldn't think of a translation that wasn't either overly sappy ("left an imprint on my heart") or strange and masochistic ("branded on my heart"), but it's definitely describing the kind of lesson that stays with you for life.

7. Once again, unclear phrasing. x.x Not sure if it's that only Ryo calls him when he's upset or if Ryo's the only one who picked up on it over the phone. But apparently, Ryo is really sensitive to these kinds of things. Or maybe he just has really good timing. Shige doesn't know, either. XD

8. Ahh, that sounds a bit stalker-like, but it's "watching over" like an older brother would for a younger sibling. Although, apparently, Ryo once wandered in to watch Shige take a shower, so... @.@ Supposedly, it was just a prank, but it definitely gets my fangirl brain going...

General Notes:

Shige is either really S or really M. Possibly both. I love that he'll be really, really sentimental and then say something dangerously double-edged like, "I didn't think he was three years my senior." XD XD XD He's so insolent! I've definitely noticed this, but he seems to say a lot of things that would get him beaten up. Even if they're funny, it's like he needs to act really arrogant in order to make up for his not-so-secret lack of self-confidence. Maybe that's why he's the bullied one in NewS, ne... -_-;;;

But of course, Ryo would find it sweet. XD
