So this is going to be a long update, because I owe a Tokyo report (of sorts), and an Osaka one. Osaka was, at the very least, cheaper then Tokyo (for many reasons--mostly because you BREATH in Tokyo and you spend 2000 yen, I SWEAR TO GOD).
ANYWAY! A fabulous Golden Week with Marie and Erin AWAITS! Birthday report to follow at a later time.
AVAST! THERE BE MUCH TO BABBLE ENDLESSLY ABOUT!
So, it started out with the Wednesday of Golden Week with me being at school, wondering if I would ever get my act together on time to get to the bus stop. I was packed and ready to go, so everything was good. The time came to leave school, and I sprinted for the train station. I wasn't TOO worried about getting there on time much beyond the fact that I NEEDED to get to Erin's that night.
My chosen form of entertainment for life the weekend was Gyakuten Saiban, AKA Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney. IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED THIS GAME, OMG WHY, YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON THE BESTEST GAME EVER CREATED! (Seriously, I'm not even FINISHED with the second game, and am pining that the American release for the third game isn't until September!) But when I got out my DS, I discovered. . .
MY DS TOUCH PEN WAS MISSING!
So, I rummaged through my bags to find something that would be a good substitute, and found a cutip. IT WORKED. I kept playing my court cases against Miles the Awesome, and this took me through the looooooong trip of 40 minute train to Tsuyama, 3 hour bus to Osaka, and the 77minute train ride until I GOT TO ERIN AT LAST. Erin then took my on a train ride to where she lived (HA! Her inaka is so NICE compared to mine), and we bsed for a little before going in search of food for me. We ended up taking this long half hour walk (ok, maybe shorter, but then again maybe not!) to this ramen shop which was a train stop over. Yum. RAMEN. I was quite pleased with my ramen, we got 'okini'-d by the tennin, and headed back. We had to walk slower because OMG I WAS BLOATED WITH RAMEN SO GOOD. We exchanged letters (which some of you may know about our letter game, this is is), and then went to bed, making to get up early and go.
Ahh, the morning came, and we made bento, I got a shower, talked to my Mom a little, and Erin and I were late running out the door to the train to get us to the Shinkansen. We made Shinkansen bento, including strips of nori shaped like the shinkansen mascot. SO. CUTE. At the station we debated trains to take for awhile, then ultimately chose one that seemed to get us there fastest. I felt bad because we were meeting Marie, BUT luckily we ALL had time to get to Tokyo, drop our bags in the hotel, and then head off to meet the people we were going to the Ghibli Museum with. (PS--it IS pronounced 'Jibli', in case you all were wondering. I know I was saying it the other way since FOREVER, but yeah. I dunno, I think I will start pronouncing in JAPANESELY UNTIL I GET TOLD TO STFU).
Ghibli Museum
It was a REALLY, really lovely day, and the walk was kind of long, but pleasant. We met up with two of Marie's friend, Arwen and Sarah, so it was really good times all around. The walk to the museum was SO pretty--we were in such a GREEN part of Tokyo, it was hard at times to remember that we were in Japan! We walked along this little stream that was surrounded by trees and green overgrownness, and it was simply wonderful. We also walked past some tennis courts and a park, which prompted a short discussion of Prince of Tennis.
THEN WE ARRIVED AT THE MUSEUM.
There was a GIANT Tottoro who manned a (fake) ticket booth, and then we headed around the museum to the entrance, ooohing and aahhing already and we weren't even inside! You couldn't take pictures inside the museum (A SHAME, I tell you!), so we took a bunch outside, and then headed in. When we got to the desk to get our little museum guides, we ALSO GOT AWESOMETASTIC Film strips!!! I got Obaba, Arwen got something from Whispers of the Heart, Marie got something from Howl, Erin got something from The Cat Returns (we think) and I forget what Sarah got. XD So we headed inside.
There are no words for this place. First of all, there are SO MANY different things there, like an exhibit dedicated to animation and it's progress through the years. And there was this AMAZING display with strobe lights and spinning things that made it look like Tottoro was dancing and spinning and OMG IT WAS HUGE AND AWESOME. The current special exhibit was about the studios that made Wallace and Gromit, and that was pretty amazing too! They had thier models there and tons of flip books and all sorts of neat stuff. Apparently they get on well with Studio Ghibli.
We also go to see 'Miyazaki's Studio'--a replica of what his studio looks like, I suppose. It was amazing. If that's really what he workspace looks like? I could totally see it. There were sketches (possibly originals? some were definetly photocopies) or stuff from MANY different movies--I'll admit I was only REALLY interested in the Howl stuff (omg blond Howl FTW SO HOT YAY), but there was stuff from Kiki's delivery Service and from the new short (I will talk about that later). Sara and I made jokes about distracting the museum staff and running away with the stuff. 'Why no, my stomach is always this flat and sounding of paper when you hit it, I have no story boards hidden under my shirt, whatever are you talking about?'
Lunch was awesome too--food wasn't all that expensive, which was good, and SO AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! And the bread. . . omg. BEST. BREAD. EVER. In Japan, at any rate. It was REAL bread too! Marie gor the HUUUUGE slice of strawberry cake, I got a tasty veggie soup, Arwen got chocolate chiffon cake (very yummy), Sara just got bread, and Erin got the 'Friut Sandwich of Your Dreams,' which she said was pretty good.
We climed on top of the museum (yay for being OUTSIDE and able to take pictures!), and there was a GIANT robot thing from Laputa, and a control box from the same movie. I have yet to see it, BUT THESE THINGS WERE TOTALLY AWESOME! Seriously. To get to the control box, you had to walk under som trees, but it was pretty nice. =) We then made our way to buy things and go.
BEST PART ABOUT THE MUSEUM: The Ghibli short that you get to see. You only are allowed to see it once (enter discussions on how to trick little children out of their tickets), and it's a GOOD thing too, I wanted to watch it again. We were lucky and got to watch the NEWEST Ghibli short, 'Hoshi katta no Hi' (Day I Bought the Star), and it was SO BEAUTIFUL. I will not tell you anything about it, other then there is a child who looks lie chibi Howl who bought a star and grows it, and it's simply adorable and lovely. Like any Ghibli film, it was VERY organic and lush. Even their advanced, futuristic world has the feeling of great greenery. I bought the book. I bet I could translate it. Teehee. I cannot WAIT for it to get released.
After all of this, we got pictures outside the museum as keepsakes, and then we headed off to waste time drinking coffee and then headed off to. . . The Ninja Restaurant.
We did some shopping somewhere, lol, at a Uniqlo. Forget where though. They were sellling shirts with Yoshitaka Amano artwork. THEY ARE BOTH MY SHIRTS, SORRY I DO NOT LOVE ANY OF YOU ENOUGH TO PART WITH THEM. Maybe enough to try and get you your own, but even then, I may not happen cause the Uniqlo near me is hard for me to get to.
After that we went to the ninja restaurant.
Yes, that's right. NINJA. RESTAURANT. HO-YEAH.
First of all, the website for the BEST RESTAURANT EVER:
http://www.ninja.tv/ So, we headed to this place called 'Ninja' for dinner. It's a kind of upscale resturant with a ninja theme. OMG, heehee. So, you enter through a SEKRIT DOOR, and wait for Ninja-san to take youto your table. They take you on a winding path filled with training and ninja magic, and then to your table. The ninja tells you your table's name (we were Ryu), and we got 'irasshaimasse'd by ninjas and OMG SO AWESOME. There was a man with an ANBU maskand Itachi's hitai-ate, OMG WHUT, and a kunoichi who was really cute! So we sat at our table, and were told our server would be YAMATO. Eheheheheheheh. *geeks*
The menu was on a scroll which our server unrolled with a florish (OMG, I wanted him to ROLL IT UP AND DO IT AGAIN). It was awesome. We all got funky ninja drinks, and then plotted a course of ordering. Ordering was interesting, but turned out SO TASTY. And expensive. BUT WORTH IT. Dinner was amazing, and there are pictures SOMEWHERE, and they may end up on the internet BUT NOT TODAY, as I am typing this all up at school. (yay googledocs)
Dinner. . . . was excellent. We had a ninja salad, I had ninja soup, and my ninja drink was really tasty. (they apparently have a 'Jiraiya' steak couse for just under $100. . . . Celeste, TELL ME NO) It was really GOOD food, and the atmosphere was AMAZING. I seriously NEVER STOPPED SMILING. After dinner, we got to see NINJA MAGIC first hand, and then ordered a dessert, which was a 'Bonsai' tree in chocolate cake dirt. It was, quite simply, WONDERFUL.
We then were escorted out, and got a proper Ninja send off.
Yes, I kept details from you. BECAUSE YOU ALL MUST GO! I might just take my parents there, because DAMN. SO. FUNNY. =D
We then headed back to the hostel to sleep, and PREPARE FOR THE DAY! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
So, I set my alarm for earlish, not thinking that we really needed to rush at all, because I didn't think the Golden Week Event would be so. . . . busy. I got a text from Jenn around 8:30 asking if we were there yet, and me saying we were on out way. She responded by saying that she got there at 7:40 and was only 1400th in line. OMG.
So, we got to the event around 9ish, to discover that we almost got in line for the Dolfie event (though Jenn did too, haha). We were then led on a long walk around Tokyo Big site, which prompted a discussion of how they were leading all the fangirls to thier deaths. AHAHAHAHA. We sat in the line for awhile, but once they started letting us in, it moved fast. I had tables to hit and people to see, so I headed in. I got to see Pika-san and Asano-san, and gave them cutsie letters with picures. BECAUSE I AM NICE. I also bought some books and a bunch of random fanmade goods, which are, imo, the BEST PART OF GOING. I picked up presents for people, myself, and stationary for letters and stuff. I found a Harry Potter book that DID NOT FRIGHTEN! In fact, it's all Weasleys and looks REALLY adorable. I've only read a little of it so far. Also bought a necklace and a little bag. Yay! Good buys. Quickly looked over the Phoenix Wright section but everything was sold out, sadness. Collected my sketches (Orochimaru and Jiraiya from Pika-san, and a Gin from a Gin/Matsumoto circle that I found that had really, REALLY pretty art. I REALLY need a Matsumoto, heeheeheehee), and pulled Erin away from the copics, which was JUST AS HARD FOR ME to do. I LOVE copic markers. (I am thinking about getting the BIG box of them next--72 markers!)
We headed off then to drop our things and go to Shibuya to meet Jenn. Which was pretty crazy, Jenn hadn't seen Erin in YEARS, and I felt kinda bad for Marie who may have felt a little left out, but Marie seemed to enjoy herself, and this made me happy, yay. We had tasty and cheap Indian food for dinner (mmmm, manga lassi FOR ALL), and were met by Jenn's friend Rachel. We all went to LOFT together, and wandered around, and I got an AWESOME bag that seriously. . . is amazing and nice to have (I want another, ahahaha), Erin bought more copics, and then Rachel left to go see her man and deliver his food. Jenn, Erin, Marie and I all headed for print club, had coffee (I did, and any rate), and then headed home. It was GOOD to see Jenn again, I only hope that I see her and Tim before they leave Japan all together.
We went back to the hostel, babbled a bit, I got snitty with some of the idiots there. Erin has now seen the light of copics, and a convert is born, bwahahahaha. I so do not feel guilty in the slightest
So the next day we checked out of the hostel, and headed off. For anyone who doesn't mind hostels, K's backpackers is a really good place to stay. The staff id friendly, remembers me (I keep going there), and it's clean and cheap. I RECCOMEND THEM VERILY!
We went to Akihabara for the day, which was lots of fun. Finding lockers, however, WAS NOT. After about an hour of searching, we found some, got some REALLY tasty kaiten sushi, and then headed into the sea of fanboys to scour for awesomness hiding in interesting areas.
The first shop we went into, I ended up getting some Naruto stickers which now decorate my DS. I saw awesome Gyakuten Saiban pins of the cast of the game in chibi form, but did not get them. Something that I thought I would regret but teehee, I TOTALLY DO NOT. I also scored a shinkansen pin, which is very awesome. We wandered around for awhile, taking pictures (I snapped a picture of Gyakuten Saiban 4's posters), and then we went to Animate where I got my Light plushie. He is evil and wonderful. Erin and I then parted ways with Marie, gathered our things, and headed off for the shinkansen.
The trip back wasn't too bad, I continued playing the first Gyakuten Saiban/Phoenix Wright game with Erin watching. It was very exciting--the murder case with Miles. That's pretty vauge (they are ALL murder cases), but when you play the game, you'll know which case I am talking about. THE case. Anyway, I continued it because I'd been playing it to kill time the past few days and Erin was getting into the game's story. She did get to see the end of the case, eventually.
The trip home was mostly uneventful, and back at Erin's, we went for ramen for dinner, then we were going to watch Death Note. Sadly, this is when we discovered my headdrive died. So, instead, we went to the internet cafe, and I checked up on all my internet stuff. Went back to Erin's and slept.
I headed gome around noon the next day, after a FABULOUS breakfast of pancakes and sasages. Mmmm. SO TASTY. My trip home was EXACTLY the same, only in reverse: Train to JR line, JR to Osaka, bus to Tsuyama, train to Kuse. . . was back actually around 6 or 7pm, amazingly enough. Very nice.
And that, my friends, was my experiance in Tokyo during Golden Week.
Next, I will make a post about my birthday. =D And then you will be caught up. I will make a picture post to go with these two looooong posts about my life. =D but not right now.
