best quote ever:
"I found you in Hell. . . don't think I could find you in Jersey?"
<3
I am so crying. AGAIN. This is so my favorite movie.
"What Dreams May Come."
I know what you are thinking: "Tara, there are no angels, no vampires, no demons and certainly no magic--why? WHY??? It has none of your favorite things!!!"
But, it has the most important thing of all. Love.
Okay Amy, here's the deal with writing.
If you want to do it, you can't be afraid of it. You've just gotta plunge in, and do it. Forget about how bad it sounds, or even if it's good--If you have an idea, see where it takes you. You might have one plot in mind, but when you start writing, you may find your characters take you somewhere else, no matter how bad you wanted to make what inspired you to write. Just go with it. See where the spark leads you.
And characters. . .they are awful. You may have a full cast of characters, but you may find that only two or three of them really make it fun to write or make any sense to. You may find that only a few of your characters actually entertaining on paper. It happens. Don't let this disparage you--it's all apart of the process.
Writing is not something that you sit down, write and are done. I hate to say it, but rough drafts are always crap and it pains me to read most of what I have written in the past (except one thing, which needs revised anyway, since the characters now have two children as opposed to just one, hahaha, but it was the best thing I had ever written, and it makes people cry. I so need to find that story. . .). This happens. BUT, hopefully you can go back and rework your stories, make them better. YOu've got friends who will help you, but unfortunatly that means critisism along with praise. There will be lots of both. That's the way of things. People will love what you write and some will hate it. Others may disagree with your point of view, or issues that you may bring up with your writing. Some will get freaked out by things like sex, or violence, or hate, or love, or any combination of it. Others may really like your twisted S&M orgy fantasy (ie-- "The Matrix:Reloded" fans).
Of course, all of this is way easier said then done. I havn't finished my story from last year's NaNoWriMo, though to be honest there's stuff about it that just really needs completely reworked before I want to start writing again. Though. . .I should just go and work on it. And just know that when I go back. . . .yeah. So much work to do. Like. . . creating a language and completely changing details. Bwahahahahaha.
Basic plot outlines are good things--super detailed ones are awsome if you have a fantasy world and your outline lays down basic rules for your world. And the history. And details about characters who are there only to die. Bwahahahaha. I am just that evil. I could write in the world forever, but. . . . so much other stuff to write first!
Anyway, what I wanted to say was this--if you feel the inspration, just do it. Sit down with your favorite wine or chu-hai, feel a little free, and HAVE FUN! That's the important part. Having fun is apart of it. Oh yeah, it'll get you pissed as hell sometimes, but just do it.
I really feel this applies to EVERYONE I know--I don't care who you are, or what you think you are capable of doing. I firmly believe that writing is important. If you have something to say, even if you don't, just write if you want to. Who cares if it's good or not? Writing is a good thing. I want to ecourage people to write. Even fanfiction. I hate authors who ban fanfiction. Anne Rice is one of those people who does (So everone reading this, please stop writing your Lestat/Louis porn[send it to me]. ANNE RICE VAMPS CANNOT HAVE SEX, which is prolly why she hates fanfiction).
Actually,I think the worst example od an anit-fanfic author is a ceratin wizard writing woman who has put the ban on the slash. I think if she was going to ban the fic, she should ban ALL of it. Or at least all the NC-17 stuff (yeah, HP porn gives me the willies folks. IT'S JUST WRONG. HARRY POTTER AND HIS FRIENDS ARE ETERNALLY ELEVEN AND WILL NEVER HAVE SEX!)
I think the smut icon is appropriate right now. BWAHAHAHAHA.
