“You know what I hate?” the slightly annoyed detective said, as she burst into her partner’s private back room.

“Door handles?” he asked, looking up from his drawing table before finishing the last bit of ink work on his current page. “What’s bugging you?” he asked, noting the irritated tone of his partner’s voice.

“No...Yes...No. Stereotypes and Clichés” she mused, before taking a stool and dragging it towards her friend as she opened a box of what he could only guess to the contents of.

“Well...Yeah, I mean, they do kind of suck, but some are pretty okay” he countered, looking on as she started to tear into the box’s contents. The red filling almost glazing her lips before she licked it away.

“Oh like you don’t hate being the stereotypical ‘comic book guy’ like in the Simpsons?” she asked in between bites, not wanting to sound cruel.

“Worst. Example.Ever” he replied, mocking the satirical character’s voice and attitude before chuckling mostly to himself.

“I’ve probably just been doing this by myself for too long,” she sighed, while rubbing her eyes, “Hauser irritates me to no end for one thing”

“Think about it like this. We’re all sort of like super heroes yeah? They’ve got these character slots or archetypes they fit into. You’re like Witchblade essentially. Bad ass, hardboiled female cop. Sure, so you don’t have a mystical suit of armor, “ he started to say, drifting off into the more geek centered parts of his brain before being brought back to reality.

“I also don’t look like Yancy Butler” she retorted, hoping that her new partner would get back on track with his speech.

“Right…well like even though she was a total ass kicker, she still had people to deal with that she hated,” he rambled on, hoping to make his point come across and not get lost.

“You did just say that I kick ass, right Doc?” Rebecca asked of her friend with a smirk.

“Uhm…yeah, like you’re great at shooting people and stuff, I mean I draw everything we do pretty much,” he motioned towards his drawing table, their most recent events on display as he tried to hide the look on his face.

“Hmm, I guess that kinda makes us like a superhero team right, Partner?” she shot him an amused look, after  taking a peek at what he drew, knowing full well the man’s adoration of caped crusaders and vigilante’s.

He smiled at her comment, even when his new job got to be too much for him and things seemed too intense he still enjoyed it. He was drawn to the many mysteries revolving around what they did and how the 63’s came to be where they were.

“Yeah, we’re pretty much awesome,” he smiled as he stood up and offered her a hand. “Buy you a donut? I know a place that sells maple bacon goodness for cheap,” he smirked.

She nodded, accepted his hand and made peace with the cliché she felt was older than time itself. “I’ll start the car.”
