Notes:

{+} Prompts are just that - prompts. They're not meant to be restrictions or limits on what you write, but inspiration and ideas to write around. These should be interpreted as you will.

{+} You are not limited to posting prompts from the prompt list to the community.

{+} There is no word maximum, and there is no word minimum.

{+} There is no deadline. We will, however, post new sets of prompts, presumably after someone finishes this set. That doesn't mean you can't go back and do prompts from this set.

{+} Prompts posted in the community are tagged by character, because we're neat freaks. You also may want to post a prompt masterlist in your journal, and link to fics from there. Additionally, prompts will be tagged by prompt (e.g. '10. shag/marry/kill')

{+} Please put anything of over 200 words under a cut.

{+} Please warn for adult content, whether violence or sex. Warnings are fun!

{+} Please use this posting format:

Elaborations

05. Before the war.
06. The Madness of Many.
07. Slight of hand; a display of skill.
08. In reference to Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold.
09. "People always say the French term l'esprit de escalier does not have an English equivalent; it means the feeling you get after leaving a (usually emotional) conversation and you think of all the things you should have said. (However, it translates nicely into the spirit of the staircase, and once you imagine the staircase as leading down and away from, say, an apartment where you and your lover had an arguement, it works fine for me. So I'm always confused when it's cited as an example of inter-language incompatibility.)"
10. In reference to Portrait of a Lady by TS Eliot.
12. Schrödinger's Cat.
13. Pavlov's Dog.
14. inertia: the resistance of any physical object to a change in its state of motion.
15. Not even wrong.
16. mah-mah-mah-mah.
17. Saudade.
18. The Sword of Damocles: An ever-present threat; an impending disaster. Damocles was a courtier who flattered the ruler Dionysius, tyrant of Syracuse, to excess. The fulsome praise so annoyed the king that he decided to teach him a lesson. He held a banquet in honor of Damocles but when Damocles saw the sword hanging by a single horse-hair over his head, he lost all taste for the lavish feast. He realized that even those who appear to enjoy great fortune face fears and worries. By the way, the word impending literally means hanging over.
19. The observer effect.
20. Bathos.
21. A city and a wine grape.
22. In media res.
23. Möbius strip.
24. XLVIII by E.E. Cummings

come a little further--why be afraid--
here's the earliest star (have you a wish?)
touch me,
before we perish
(believe that not anything which has ever been
invented can spoil this or this instant)
kiss me a litte:
the air
darkens and is alive--
o live with me in the fewness of
these colours;
alone who slightly
always are beyond the reach of death

and the English

25. light echo: The pulse of light from a nova or supernova may reflect from dust in the vicinity and form a temporary reflection nebula. The temporary nebula is known as a light echo.
