Time: Soon after Oliver has emerged from his trial
Summary: Oliver attempts to share uncandy with the affected Eithan and Jamie.

[Jamie steps out from the entrance to the ballroom, smoothing down the front of his new outfit. The kilt's grown a bit tiresome, and the new clothes are much more to his liking. His eyes alight on the shield Oliver's carrying, and he lets out a derisive snort.]

A shield? Do ye truly think that will be of any use, Oliver?

[oliverplus]

[Oliver's heart drops at the sight of his friend] Jamie... [but he straightens, defensive, and tries not to look as nervous as he feels. then he starts walking forward, meaning to go right up to Jamie. he needs to be close]

I don't know yet. [he licks dry lips] What do you think?

[bonnypiperlad]

[mildly] That you've not learned to say my name properly yet...and that I think I've perhaps got to take stronger measures on that front. I see you've already decided to try something, though. Good. That'll make this that much easier.

[Quite suddenly, he goes to close the gap between them. While he doesn't appear to be looking at the shield, he's still very aware it's there, and he's ready to act if need be. His hand snakes out to try and grab Oliver by the wrist, intending on twisting it painfully to get him to drop the potential weapon - and, not incidentally, bring Oliver in close enough that James can get into his mind again.]

[oliverplus]

[Oliver opens his mouth to say something, but then Jamie comes at him. instinctively, Oliver pulls the hand with the tube against him to protect it, holding the shield in front of it. unfortunately, this leaves him quite open for Jamie to attack]

[bonnypiperlad]

[Fortunately, Jamie is more interested in getting Oliver off balance than doing any real damage. He needs to get that shield away from him, and if Oliver's in the process of falling over, well, maybe he'll let go. Or at least not have such a good grip on it. So he launches himself at him in an attempt to use his weight to try and knock the other man off his feet.]

[oliverplus]

[Oliver might be taller and older, but he doesn't have Jamie's strength--nor did he have the foresight to see that coming. he stumbles backwards, keeping the tube held tightly against him, but he cartwheels with his shield arm, trying to keep his balance]

[bonnypiperlad]

[He uses that moment of unbalance to make a grab for the shield and try and wrest it out of Oliver's grasp. If he can accomplish that, then he can go in and fix the other things easily - or so he thinks.]

[oliverplus]

[considering Oliver's only free hand is behind the shield, he doesn't have any way to stop Jamie from grabbing onto it. he does manage to catch his balance, though, and he tries to pull back]

[then he realises that this is the exact opportunity he's been waiting for. as quickly as he can, he lashes out with his other hand, squeezing the tube as he attempts to stick it into Jamie's mouth. he only hopes this works]

[bonnypiperlad]

[Jamie lets go of the shield to push the tube away from his mouth...but not before some of the toothpaste gets squirted into it. He sputters, winding up swallowing some of it before managing to wipe the rest off of his mouth. His eyes darken with anger.]

How dare ye?!

[He starts to advance on Oliver again, the expression on his face a clear indicator he's done playing games.]

You've picked the wrong person to toy with, Oliver Day.

[oliverplus]

[Oliver quickly clutches the tube to his chest again. he doesn't know if that worked--it doesn't seem to have done--so he knows he can't lose hold of it. if Jamie gets it away from him, he's afraid he'll have no chance to help]

[but at Jamie's expression, Oliver starts to back up--quickly] I just want to help you, Jamie. That's all!

[bonnypiperlad]

For the last time, my name's not... [He blinks, giving his head a shake before bringing up a hand to his forehead and squinching his eyes shut.]

...not...

[Suddenly, his eyes flick open again. All of the arrogance and disdain in them is gone, replaced by a rather large amount of confusion.]

Oliver?

[oliverplus]

...Jamie? [Oliver keeps his distance, too afraid to believe that this is his friend again. he holds the tube tightly against him] Is...is that you?

[bonnypiperlad]

Aye, why wouldn't it be me? [He rubs his head, still trying to figure out what's going on.]

What happened?

[oliverplus]

Jamie! [Oliver busts out in a relieved grin, relaxing] You...ah...an experiment. [quickly] But it's all right now!

[bonnypiperlad]

An experiment? But why wouldn't I rememb- [He cuts off, looking at Oliver with a horrified expression as it all comes flooding back.]

No. I didn't do that. I couldn't. [But he knows he did, and he turns away, his voice going soft.] Oh god.

[oliverplus]

Jamie... [Oliver drops his shield, hurrying over to his friend. he doesn't turn Jamie round, but he does put a hand on his shoulder. his tone is firm] You didn't do anything. Okay? This place did. Not you.

[his voice catches a bit, even as he tries for a smile] And you have no idea how good it is to see you.
