Ray's jaw dropped at the prissy bird who just snatched his fag from his mouth, then hmphed and gave her an arrogant glare. "You got a meeting with him? The Guv's a busy --"

"Shut it, Carling," came the snappish shout of Gene Hunt, standing in the doorway of his office, cigarette hanging from the side of his mouth as he gave Misaki a level look. Then he grunted and motioned for her to come in with a shrug of his shoulders, closing the door with an audible click behind her.

Taking a seat at his desk and snuffing out his cigarette, Gene finally asked: "The hell are you doing here?"

She rubbed her temple with two fingers. "I would like to know the same damn thing. I was going down to forensics to ask them some questions and wound up here."

She helped herself to the chair opposite. "I didn't expect reality merges to be so... subtle. I didn't even notice until I was in your hall."

The Guv snorted. "Forensics is gay boy science and don't have any place in real law enforcement." This was something Sam Tyler had heard far too often, really. Gene never tired of saying it, though. "Looking for more information on your murderer then?"

She was more than welcome to the chair and he sat back in his, watching her carefully. "They aren't always. At least you don't have savanna in your east side."

For a moment she was tempted to argue. She clamped down on the urge. Never mind that it would be disrespectful to fight with someone of equal rank on his own turf--with the sense she'd gotten of Hunt, she figured it wouldn't matter what she said if she did argue. She filed her retorts away and set the file on his desk. "That's the latest. The girl we just IDed. It was..."

She sighed. "It was gruesome."

Eager for the change of topic--but still leaving the file within rifling distance--she said,

"Savanna? I'd heard there was a hyena running around... I'm afraid I didn't quite believe it."

"They all are." He leafed through the folder, taking in the images and notes, all the information listed in long lines that eventually blurred together in the shared horror of their words. He'd seen just as bad on his own streets, bloated corpses in the canal, mutilated bodies or the raped bodies of little girls, but it never got any easier, any less difficult to look at.

Eventually, he closed the file and pulled out another cigarette. "There's gotta be a pattern somewhere. He'll slip up eventually, luv. And then you'll nick him."

He noted the change and took it up easily. "Nothing to do with that annoying animal, no. Stuck with that Frenchie bastard, instead."
