Was it? Actually it was the one place Duo knew that Heero had been to. Not hard to figure that Heero would go to familiar ground first before exploring anything else. He opened his eyes and looked to the door, and sure enough there was Heero looking at him. He stood up from the table and walked over. "Heero." He nodded to the other one.

"Have fun with out me in your perfect little world?" It was a jibe. Of course. Let's just see how this plays out.

To Duo, whatever Heero had was several times better than his. By leaps and bounds. Heero had implied that all the pilots survived, and the war had been won. He didn't need to details, but he could surmise enough from their conversation to at least figure that out. He walked over to the other one and sat beside him. "Gonna let me come back with you, or not?"

Maybe Duo would surprise Heero yet. Maybe all he needed to do was convince Heero it was worth it, even if he did have ulterior motives. He didn't want to admit it to himself, but going with Heero? It meant giving up the cause. surrendering. Thinking about it only weakened his resolve, so he didn't. He just didn't want to deal with it anymore.

Duo stared at Heero for a moment before turning his attention to the bar top. "Fine with me." He says. "But maybe you outta come back with me."

He stands next to the boy, contemplating his next move. Was it worth it? Probably not. He reached for Heero's shoulder and thought about his home. He went back like he did before, but made an effort to pull Heero along for the ride.

In a sick little way, Duo kind of enjoyed the fact that he could get under Heero's skin so effortlessly. Still, it wasn't something he'd make a habit. 'Zero-One' was the only friend he had left. Duo glanced back at Heero solemnly and brought a very small sympathetic smile to his face. "Brought you home for dinner. That's all."

Heero thought Duo's combat was pathetic? Try his weak attempts at humor. He's figured he's pretty much lost his edge, but at least he tries.

The two of them stood on the street corner, near where the shop had appeared but not directly infront of them. It was in a bad part of town, where even the light of the artificial sun didn't quite reach all the way down past the later buildings. They were cast in shade, and nearby? Large fields of salvage. It was sweeper territory around here. Friendly to the cause but not people Duo was privileged enough to associate with these days. Duo gestured for him to follow him and he cut across a street after a car passed them by and moved through an alley.

The shortcut he used took them pretty quickly through that neighborhood and to the next, where his apartment building was. Duo stopped short of the street and searched around. Who was there? "Keep your eyes peeled." He says as he cautiously moves forward. If they were just grunts, they'd leave him alone, but any ranking OZ soldier'd probably give him a hard time for smuggling 01 around.

It's not the muggers he worried about. Duo stood at a street corner, waiting for the light to change. Two more dumpy cars passed them. He crossed. Then he spotted them. Like moths to a flame. Patrol time for OZ soldiers, huh? He wondered if Heero had noticed. A few here, a few there. Duo noticed about ten soldiers patrolling the neighborhood on their way over here. They enforced the laws for the peace of the colonies, and this colony arguably held the most would be rebels, including some of the most infamous.

Duo stopped and handed Heero one of his keys and gestured to the building they were standing beside. "This is it. You probably don't want to get spotted. Pretty sure the version of you in this world has already violated the terms of the pardon a dozen times." Which means there was a warrant out for Heero Yuy. "Second floor, 206." Duo said.

Duo moved into the open to cover Heero's movement, moving around the corner wide as the OZ soldier's passed him and he headed up the stairs after Heero had already gone in, but he was stopped by a hand grabbing his wrist.

"Hey Maxwell." It was Nichol. Une's little stooge. Of course.

Meanwhile, the moment Heero opened the door, he'd hear the clack of hard nails against the floor and the dangle of metal as a large sized dog bounded for the door. She stuck her big head up, her hackles raised as she saw Heero growling warningly at the intruder.

This dog sensed the apprehension coming off Heero and approached cautiously sniffing at him. She smelled Duo. Her owner. Her friend. Her tail wagged once, and she remained standing, watching Heero and eying the weapon. She was trained well enough to know that that was a dangerous thing. She turned her ears back to voices out the window and darted over to the bedroom. Her interest wasn't on Heero anylonger but on the voice of her master. Her tail wagged and she whined, sticking her nose out of the iron bars that protected the window ( ... )
