They were gonna die, that was what it meant. The more Chris thought about it, the more he curled up against the wall. Best he could, anyway, given the position. Maybe it would all go away if he shut his eyes.
He wanted to hide away. Or have a gun. At least if he had a gun and the rest of the team was free and fighting, it would be all right. But it was all wishful thinking.
He couldn't help. At least the others were talking. At least they hadn't given up. Chris couldn't either. He had to speak up with them.
"I believe in the Guv, too." It was quiet, almost mumbled.
It was the best he could manage. Even with death just about guaranteed, he knew it was right. The others believed in it and Chris would stand by them. Or sit by them chained up, as it were.

This wasn't his area of expertise. The Guv, the Boss, and Cartwright all seemed to be doing their fair share at trying to reason with the man who had them prisoner - though Ray thought the idea of reasoning with the bloke stupid. Generally the sort of people that did this kind of thing responded better to a good fist to the face instead of psychological crap. And that fist to the face was what he did best. As he couldn't do that, he decided to shut up until he felt he was needed.
He glanced over towards Chris to see how he was holding up. He didn't really have high expectations, so upon seeing Chris pretty much curled against the wall, he pulled on a smirk. Accompanying it was a quickly muttered 'don't worry'; something to try to cancel out some of Chris' fear.
Ray didn't particularly believe there was nothing to worry about, but he wasn't about to let that show.

Seeing Sam helped and Gene gave his DI a brief nod. "Sammy-boy's got a point there. You offed me, I nicked your bloody escape from your planet. Think that makes us about even. So get off."

Despite his calm reply, the Master's eyes flared and went almost entirely black - with only a slight ring of yellow to illustrate that there was any colour to them. Then again, it was always rather obvious to those that had any interaction with the Master that his calm demeanour belied other things.
Slowly he moved his hand down, resting it on Gene's throat. He gave it a threatening squeeze before glancing over towards Annie. "Oh, I know that, Miss Cartwright. It most certainly won't change things, but it will make me feel much better."

Attention was a very bad thing, she thought, as the Master said her name.
She could feel her heart skip a beat as the Master looked at her, his hand right there on the Guv's throat. He was going to kill him, he was going to kill all of them, and there was absolutely nothing they could do about it, bound and helpless as they were. He was talking to her, except she thought he really wasn't, it was politeness and poshness and something more sinister. A showman and his audience, and she most likely wasn't meant to say anything anyway. That might be a blessing, because she couldn't find the words to respond.
She didn't watch the Master's face. She was no longer focused on Chris in the corner, and she couldn't say what Sam or Ray might be doing. She wasn't looking at any of them. Instead, her gaze stayed fixed on the Guv's throat and the Master's hand. He was mad, and even though she always thought anyone could be reasoned with, she had a sinking feeling that their lives might rest in the hands of the one exception to the rule.
Reason might not work, but Sam and the Guv seemed to think they knew how to handle the Master. She would have to trust that, it's all she could do.

And so Chris steeled his courage and looked up at the Master.
"Could get some of them balls. The squeezey stress ball things? Some of them got those eyes that come out," he suggested. "They're pretty fun."
After speaking, Chris's mind gave a gentle poke back into the realm of reality, wherein he realised he'd just suggested a stress ball to the insane kidnapper guy. It was either embarrassing or stupid. Maybe both.
Though it still seemed like a idea to him. Stress balls were fun. However, it seemed like a good time to just shut up, stare at the metal floor and try not to think about possible impending doom.
