Amaterasu nodded, looking toward the Doctor. "I do not know him as well as some do, of course, but I believe we can expect all manner of tricks and atrocities between us and those imprisoned, yes?" She paused, looking away from the Doctor as her expression darkened. "And it is the Master, or Masters. We must prepare ourselves for the worst."

She move forward to the very threshold of the open door and scented the air. All she could smell was that strange metal, the ever-present watery, dusty scent that belonged to the Plane itself. There didn't seem to be any invisible or cursed barrier, at least not the sort that she was used to--but she took care not to step beyond the threshold.

"Ah, and we run into our first problem," she said, looking back over her shoulder at the others. "Nothing smells out of place with the doorway itself--though I am not sure that I can trust my nose in this situation--but it seems that already, there are two ways we can go. The hallway splits to the right and to the left."

She sighed a little. The Master wanted them to split up, and it didn't seem that they had much of a choice. This whole situation felt terribly similar to the series of tragedies on the Ryoshima Coast and in Sei-an. Indeed, Amaterasu got the feeling that the Master could give the Ninetails a run for its money in terms of trickery and cruelty.

It was the first time that she really looked at the party assembled. It would be better for her to go with someone, since she couldn't hear within those walls, and it would be dangerous to go alone. There were Mu and Hei, but after the recent incident, she didn't exactly trust either of them with her well being. Diva rubbed her wrists idly at the thought, instead turning to the Time Lord. She assumed that he was another Doctor (there were so many of them here, after all) and smiled politely to him. It would probably be to her advantage to have a Time Lord on her side anyways, she figured.

"It's quite a way to meet, but I think that Mu and Hei will be a better pair together. I'm Diva," she said, curtsying lightly, "I suppose we'll get to know each other later, though."

He returned the smile, and it changed not at all when he realised who she was.

Sam's vampire, then. Well, she could definitely be useful.

"I'm the Doctor. I don't know the Masters quite so well as the others do, but I think I can handle their...creativity." He was certain they pulled out all the stops; it was exciting, in a way, though of course he didn't show it.

Splitting up was dangerous, inevitably so. You covered more ground, sure, but you divided your numbers. More than that, there were five of them--they wouldn't even be able to divide evenly. They were all going to be at a disadvantage.

Hei gritted his teeth. It had just been one thing after the other lately.

"Seems like we have to split up. I'm fine going with Mu..." He looked around at the other three. "That leaves Amaterasu, I guess."

Mu nodded at the proceedings.

"It may be better if Amaterasu were to go with Diva and the Gentleman. At least that way each group has someone who can heal, if nothing else."

He was musing aloud a little bit, but he had wits enough to address the Goddess by her full name. His gaze turned to the fork in the hallway, then to Hei.

"Left or Right?"

Amaterasu smiled. She was confident that Mu would be able to take care of both himself and the cold man named Hei. It was Diva and the Doctor who were going to need her help.

"That arrangement does seem best. Ah, and whichever team reaches them first--it would be wisest for that team to wait for the second team, though no more than a few minutes."

She looked back at the others, smiling again.

"Do not fear. We shall rescue Sam, and we shall all see each other again soon." She looked into the fortress. "My senses seem to be unreliable in this situation, so I will choose at random and say 'left', if that is alright with everyone."

And with that, she took a first, tentative step across the threshold.

Diva followed right after Amaterasu without a word to Hei or Mu, only glancing to the Doctor as if to say for him to follow. She wasn't tentative at all in her steps, striding ahead of Amaterasu after those few steps, still straining to hear for any heartbeat or sign of direction.

This was what Amshel had truly "bred" Diva for. She was only a pretty, genteel woman on the outside, because even though she had been raised to be a lady, she had been raised more to be a vicious killer. Even though Sam was trying to tame her and drive out that instinct, it was still just beneath the surface of her being, evidenced most clearly then. The only difference was that rather than stalking along some dark hallway to act as an assassin, she was instead seeking to save someone.

It seemed a bit more acceptable, anyways.

The Doctor had no qualms at all about letting the goddess and the vampire go before him; he offered them both a grim, determined smile before following.

"Walk carefully; not all of their traps will be obvious."

Hei watched the other three cross the threshold before he moved. There didn't seem to be any traps on the door itself. He stepped up to the edge of the door and then glanced back at Mu.

"I'm going ahead."

He stepped across the threshold, holding his breath until he was inside the fortress. He looked over at the others, already heading down the left hallway.

"Good luck."

He remained silent as the trio went down the left hallway, then turned his gaze towards Hei, stepping quietly after him.

Mu let his cosmo burn ever so slightly, providing extra illumination for the pair to see by.

((..two threads now, I'm guessing?))

Amaterasu saw and felt Mu's Cosmo retreating behind them, until the trio turned a corner and the light from his Cosmo faded. They now had to rely on Amaterasu's own faint white glow and what light there was.

She was sure to pace herself, letting Diva and the Doctor trail just behind her. She trusted them and their skills, certainly, but she was the one most likely to survive if something came at them from out of the fortress.

Amaterasu wondered when they would encounter their first obstacle.

[ooc: Trio thread goes here, and nevermind, make up the obstacles as you go :3]

"It doesn't matter if they're obvious or not, does it? We'll have to deal with them either way," Diva replied coolly. Of course, being careful would probably help to avoid injury or death(s), but Diva's strategy so far consisted of tearing up whatever was in her way. She had learned that dying a few times along the way wasn't so bad as long as you made it to your goal, after all.

Splitting away from Hei and Mu had calmed her slightly, since she felt like the chances of reaching Sam were better with two parties. She only hoped that someone would be able to find him before something terrible---

But no, she wouldn't allow herself to think of what could be happening. She instead wished that she had taken a bit more blood this week.

"Ne, but Doctor, do you know what kind of traps we should expect? That seems like it would be helpful."

His voice was slightly distracted as he gazed at the featureless black walls, keeping a certain distance from them. "If a thing is avoidable, it ought to be avoided."

He was quite expressionless in the darkness, even as he considered Diva's question.

"I've no specific examples, I'm afraid, but they've a flair for the complicated and dramatic. Many will likely depend on quick thinking; they enjoy outsmarting people. I imagine they'll become progressively worse as we go."

"Indeed, I heartily agree. It would do us all well to be as careful as possible."

It was virtually impossible to smell anything in this place. All Amaterasu could smell were her two comrades, and the lingering scent of Mu and Hei. The strange Plane metal overpowered everything else.

"I am used to puzzles, though I somehow get the feeling that the Masters' puzzles will be far beyond what I have encountered. We shall see, I suppose..."

She trailed off as they turned the corner and met their first obstacle--a door with what looked like some sort of locking mechanism holding it shut tight.

Diva paused in front of the door, staring at the lock coolly. She didn't touch the lock, instead brushing her fingers gently against the door. That delicate motion changed quickly, though, for she drew her hand back and struck the door with her fist. The door boomed from the force, but it didn't come off its hinges or even budge like Diva had hoped.

Her expression hadn't changed at all, but she cradled her hand delicately while the broken fingers healed themselves. Instead, she glanced over her shoulder to Five and Amaterasu. Now, since she was healing herself, her eyes were glowing slightly, but a very brilliant shade of blue.

"Then I guess this is our first puzzle."

The Doctor's gaze slides from Diva to the lock and back again, silently intrigued; after a moment, he steps past his companions to kneel in front of the lock.

"Most locks can be picked..."

He ghosts a gloved hand over it, only to jerk it back, blue sparks flying after his fingers.

"Well, it appears to be an electric lock."
