Living in Haarlem

Living in Haarlem, Netherlands for a week. We were in Amsterdam for honeymoon but decided to come back to see more of pretty Netherlands.

Since I last posted, aboutnScotland, Luke and I spent some time in:
- North England (Parks District and Carlisle)
- London (mostly for more theatre and a 3FF diversity training course),
- Israel for family events, friend catch ups, helping a friend with a sorta marriage break-down (they’re on-again-off-again), and finished a Hebrew language course in Tel Aviv (Luke and I graduated last Thursday with 8 others from a bunch of different countries) and,
- we’re now spending two weeks in the Netherlands and West Germany (and / or North Belgium). Even though I’m kinda lactose intolerant I’m eating all the cheese! Nom nom nom ! Free tasting in every cheese town and cheese shop. We found this amazing truffle cheese that we can actually bring back to Australia.

I guess I have much to write about but don’t know where to start ... or what to say... I feel like everything sounds boring when I write it out.

Things that have changed about me on this year away:

- I’m an ok skier now! Plus Luke really loves it so I expect we’ll be planning skiing holidays to Queenstown and Hokkaido (one day)

- I enjoy studying (I always did but now I’ve realised it)

- I actually like cats (not as much as dogs but I still like them)

- I’ve worked up the resolve to travel to Southern Hemisphere places more - South Africa, Mozambique (omg diving off the coast of Mozambique), Namibia, Tanzania, Chile, Brazil... New Zealand ...

- I’ve become more bitter and twisted about the riches of the North / West European and the exploitation of much of Africa and developing Asia. Still riding on the backs of slaves and privilege. A privilege which I have too living in Australia and being able to work in UK on my visa etc (simple because I have an Aussie passport) not simple if you’re a refugee or new immigrant from the “wrong country” desperate for work and not on the “correct” passport.

Is it possible to have disgust for my own self because of the multitude of opportunities and pure dumb luck that I’ve had ? Well, I kinda do right now. I know how lucky I am to have had this year away. Have had it relatively easily .... now to be coming back to Canberra with an ok job waiting for me. I am so freaking lucky.
