Empowerment - Some More Answers

To continue from "How to Be Empowered," let me first clear up something.  Concerning the baptism with the Holy Spirit and speaking with new tongues; you seek Yahshua ("Jesus") the Messiah to baptize you.  You do not seek tongues.  Speaking with new tongues is simply a spiritual ability received along with being filled with the Spirit (initially).  ( Read more... )

Some Good Books and Such shieldofdavid February 8 2009, 07:55:54 UTC
Many of the following books I can personally recommend while some I've heard good things about them. Those I have not read yet are on my list to get.

Kenneth Hagin's ministry (he passed away a few years ago at the age of 87) specialized in leading believers to operate by faith in the Word as well as operating in/by the Holy Spirit.

The Wigglesworth Standard by Peter J. Madden is an excellent book to inspire you to seek more, receive more, and walk in more of the power of God.

The Stone father and son team have good insights and I specifically put the books that will encourage faith or help concerning cooperating with the Holy Spirit (being empowered and walking in empowerment).

Max Lucado is a well known Christian teacher. I'm not at all sure if he's ever even been baptized with the Holy Spirit or operated in the gifts of the Spirit (1 Co 12), but regardless, he's anointed to teach and does a good job taking scriptural subjects and writing books about such that edify the believer.

Benny Hinn is one of the most persecuted ministers around. He operates as an Evangelist, especially in foreign nations, and teaches well when it comes to the subject of the Holy Spirit. He not only teaches the issues of the Holy Spirit well, but exemplifies walking by the leading and power of the Holy Spirit.

Darlene Bishop is our local church pastor's wife who travels speaking as an Evangelist and is also equipped to preach and teach scriptural truths that edify faith in God's Word. The book I listed is excellent and encouraging to faith.

Pat Robertson is of course the founder of CBN, is very familiar with operating in the gifts of the Spirit, and the book I listed is a good one about the Kingdom of heaven we are now citizens of. I have not read it in years, but I remember being edified by it. I also put a link to CBN spiritual gifts web cast. That program does a great job of teaching and showing how to operate in the gifts of the Spirit, as well as how to praise and worship in the spirit.

Kenneth Hagin Jr. has also written some good edifying material you may want to check out.

By Kenneth E. Hagin: Faith Food (devotional); Zoe: The God Kind of Life; A Common Sense Guide to Fasting; Must Christians Suffer; The Believer's Authority; How You Can Be Led By the Spirit of God; What To Do When Faith Seems Weak and Victory Lost; The Art of Prayer; Growing Up Spiritually; Understanding the Anointing; A Fresh Anointing; He Gave Gifts Unto Men; Mountain Moving Faith; God's Word: A Never-failing Remedy; Welcome To God's Family

By Peter J. Madden: The Wigglesworth Standard

By Darlene Bishop: Your Life Follows Your Words

By Benny Hinn: Good Morning Holy Spirit; Welcome Holy Spirit

By Perry Fred Stone, Sr.: Fire On the Altar

By Perry Stone (Jr.): Mystery of the Priesthood and the Blood

By Pat Robertson: The Secret Kingdom

By Max Lucado: It's Not About Me; Just Like Jesus; On the Anvil; The Great House of God

John Piper has a good ministry that edifies believers greatly. http://www.desiringgod.org/

Like Max Lucado, I don't think he's on the same page with the issues of the Holy Spirit (baptism, and operation of gifts today), but like Lucado he doesn't attach such. I'm always leery of any ministry that starts attacking things of the Holy Spirit in operation through believers today, as that is behavior like the Pharisees and Sadducees who opposed Messiah displayed.

For videos online that help with the subject of the spiritual gifts, I highly recommend the Spirit Gifts web casts archive at http://event.cbn.com/spiritualgifts/

As far as well known ministries from past generations of the reformation the Holy Spirit started to bring the Body to the Bride that will be ready for Messiah's return, these are some names you can search material and books from that will edify and instruct well.

Charles Finney
Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Smith Wigglesworth
John Wesley
R.A. Torrey
E.M. Bounds
D.L. Moody
John Calvin
Martin Luther
John Bunyan (author of The Pilgrim's Progress)
Oswald Chambers (authoer of My Utmost for His Highest)
Kathryn Kulhman

I could keep going but that is good for now. As you can see, I do not have denominational boundaries with who I will glean from or recommend others glean from.
