Over the Edge: Session One, Part Five

Nov 12, 2010 00:44

Last post of the first session.

Faced with the thorny question of what to do with something nine feet long, four and a half feet wide, and made of thick steel (and honestly, they don't know if the CIA wants it destroyed, analyzed, or returned to Langley), they decide to call Ann Black. From the noise over the phone, she's almost certainly still at Sad Mary's, and her voice suggests that she has not slowed down her drinking as the evening has gone on.

Iordain asks, "So, how are we going to transport this thing?"

Ann: "Transport what thing?"

Iordain: "Um, the Crimson Chamber. You know, the thing we're here for?"

Ann: "You have it?"

Iordain: "Er, yes."

Ann: (Silence.)

Iordain: "Hello?"

Ann: "Huh. You work fast, don't you?"

Iordain: "Listen, we need a van, our SUV won't carry this thing and all of us."

Ann: "SUV? Where the hell did you... never mind, I don't want to know."

Iordain: "No, you really don't. How about that van?"

Ann: "Yeah, I'll call a guy. He should be at the warehouse soon."

While they wait for Ann's driver to show up, Dakota and Frank get Andy back into the SUV. A quick check in the glove box proves that the Chain Gang stole it. Andy's unbound at this point, but the sack is still over his head. They head across town, back toward the docks, when Frank notices that they're being followed, though he can't make out anything about the drivers.

He's trying to figure out how to lose the tail in a city neither he nor Dakota know at all when he sees an apparition on his shoulder. Almost all of the spirits he sees don't speak a word of English, but this one addresses him in a heavy accent, "Need me to take care of that for you?"

Frank says, "Sure," and has a sudden moment of double vision. It looks for a moment like a streetlight is toppling behind them, but just as suddenly the odd image corrects itself. Dakota hasn't noticed it, but the driver behind them did, and he swerves violently to avoid the falling post... only to crash into its very solid, very real foundation.

At the docks, Frank and Dakota put Andy out, warning him to count to fifty before removing the sack. He sits on the sidewalk, putting his head between his knees; from what they can see in the rearview mirror, he follows their instructions to the letter.

Back at the warehouse, a van pulls up in the narrow street behind the warehouse, and a man who gives his name as Dave hops out. Frank and Dakota pull in behind him shortly after. The five manhandle the device into the back of the van. Dave explains that he has a garage in another part of town, not all that far away. It's a chop shop, and the agents promise him the SUV in exchange for his help and his absolute discretion.

As the first session ends, the four agents, Dave, and the Crimson Chamber all reach the garage.
