I think Skye has been a challenging character for people to love, but the audience has embraced her a lot more in the most recent episodes, including myself. And in light of the most recent episode, and with the wait for the next new one, I thought I'd post a link to a feature I did for Marvel's Agents, a fansite for the show. I started writing for the site in November, and I love getting to do little features like this one.
Skye is the one character on Agents of SHIELD that has given most of the audience member some serious mixed signals. While I think we can all agree that Chloe Bennet is awesome, we all also have a love-hate relationship with Skye. Skye’s character vacillates between being interesting and being annoying. But the truth is, that’s pretty on point for someone in her position. She’s the newbie on the team who isn’t used to having people tell her what to do, isn’t used to playing by the rules, and her background is almost a complete mystery. For that, we can forgive her character a few quibbles. She is slowly becoming an integral part of the team, and deep down, we really do love her.
5. We want to get to know her. The few glimpses we’ve seen into her past involve abandonment, strict nuns, and living in a van to keep her freedom. In the pilot episode, we’re led to believe that Skye isn’t even her own name, and now we know that SHIELD is responsible for redacting all information about her origins. It’s a nice mystery to unravel a little bit at a time each week. It also keeps us interested in her if there’s a scene or two that make us dislike her.
