I really hate people sometimes. When a person is not nice to me or offends me, the rest of the day seems crappy.
This happened last Thursday. So after school I went over to Caribou Coffee over by the library and got something to drink. Then I went over to the pond in town square to think. Nature always makes me feel better. Plus, I get the biggest kick out of watching the ducks.
This one mama duck was hanging out with her 3 little ducklings by the waterfall. It was as if they were playing hide and seek with her. They would swim to the top of the waterfall and fall down it to the next layer of water. You could tell mama was getting frustrated at the rambunctious youngsters, for she was angrily quacking. Her quacks got louder as I approched, as if she were warning her ducklings to beware of me.
Another group of ducks were chasing away this one duck. I could tell he was "different." This particular duck has a hurt leg. I have seen him there before and I was surprised to see him still alive and kicking. After being chased away he went to his own little corner of the pond to groom himself. I felt so sorry for the little guy.
You all probably are reading this thinking, "She is nuts!" It is true my friends... I interpret nature more than others and I may sound eccentric for sharing my thoughts. From the looks of it, life must be pretty carefree for those ducks. But to be honest with you, I bet these birds have just as many hardships in their lives as we do. Just as many questions go through their minds everyday. "Should we fly to a new location?" "Should I take food from these people?" "Is that girl going to hurt my babies?" "Why are the others so mean to me?"
We are not that different from ducks. One day we will be old enough to leave the nest. Many questions may go through our minds as we start a new life. Change can be a good thing. It can also break you. Life is what you make of it.
We can learn a lot from nature. It deserves to be respected.
PS - The death of Steve Irwin is NOT a joke. I am so fucking sick of people laughing about it and cracking jokes about his passing. He changed the lives of both people and animals through wildlife conservation and education throughout the world. You may think that he asked for it. But he got killed while attempting to educate the people of this earth about the great creatures of our planet. The world is now at a loss since he is no longer in it. We lost an icon and a hero and I see no humor in it. GROW UP!
