Homework Break

I recently found some old comic pages of mine in my hard drive. I'm not sure it rekindled my desire to draw more, per se, because I'm sure I thought about it at least once before finding them; but it certainly hasn't relieved me of the temptation. However, there are several issues with this...

1) finding the right story. I've made two attempts at webcomics to date, both of which I would LOVE to continue with. The trouble is that both contain characters that partially or completely are the invention of someone I've since had a falling out with, and the stories just wouldn't be the same without them. That means I have to come up with something from scratch, which would be very time consuming. Cue the next issue.

2) time constraints. I'm a grad student and the president of a club, who also happens to be looking for a part-time job. While I'm sure I could devote an hour or so a week to a webcomic, I really couldn't (or shouldn't) put in any more than that. Thus, my story would have to be simple and easy to illustrate. My first comic, Chipmunk, Inc. fit that bill because it was random and worked well in three-panel strips. But again, I wouldn't feel comfortable going back to that one.

3) lack of talent. I'm a writer, not an artist. On the other hand, this has never stopped me before. ;)

In fact, I really doubt any of these are going to stop me, but I will have to keep them in mind while I'm planning. As a novelist, I have a tendency to plan out really intricate plotlines and scenes that are easy to paint in words but impossible for me to achieve in drawing. While I adore Chipmunk, Inc. because it was one of the first things I began writing in high school, I seriously doubt I have it in me to create another, equally simplistic story. Planning is going to be fun. XD

In other news, a week seems to have been all that was necessary for the anthology project to die a horrible death. I'm hoping it doesn't remain so, and I think I'll stay optimistic at least for another couple weeks. I know my writers are busy. Though I am pissed that the forum got hacked by a spambot. >.>
