Title: Good Morning
Pairing: Katori Shingo/Inagaki Goro
Note: Inspired by Honeywork's "Friday's Good Morning". I think the only SMAP pairing I can write about without hesitating is Shingoro lols.

7 minutes before 8 AM

Shingo straightened himself. Any second now, the train will stop at the next station. He took a deep breath when it eventually stopped and the doors at the other side opened. A youthful man with curly hair stepped in and he felt his breath was taken away as he observed his every move. As usual the young man sat a seat away from him. He could smell his musky scent a combination of men’s perfume and detergent soap. He attempted to take a glance from him and he saw him yawn as he pulled a book from his bag. He wanted to know the title of the book, but he stopped himself from leaning over to take a peak because it would be too obvious.

It had been days since he started seeing this guy and he didn’t know why, but he became curious about him. The guy has this kind of air around him that he’s someone firm yet delicate. It created a mixture of feelings inside him. He wanted to protect him from harm and to stay by his side. He shivered as that thought passed through his mind. Gosh, what was he saying. It’s too clichéd. Sighing, he tried to clear his mind. He almost forgot about this mission today. He decided last night that he will try to talk to this man. Maybe he could start with a good morning.

He coughed and shifted his position as if he’s going to face the man. But the moment he tried opening his mouth, he couldn’t spit out the words he wanted to say and that he had been practicing every day before he gathered the courage. It seemed he still doesn’t have the courage at all. He tsk-ed in frustration and he sort of panicked when the guy looked at him. He instantly looked away to the other side.

Days passed. Shingo would always anticipate the arrival of the curly-haired man, but he wasn’t able to make any move to start a conversation with him. One time the train seats were unusually filled with people so he decided to stand near the entrance of the train. When the train stopped at the next station an old man alighted the train the same time as the young man went inside. The young man was about to sit on the seat near the place where Shingo was standing, but he saw an old woman get on the train too so he gave her the seat.

The kind gesture made Shingo smile, but that smile suddenly disappeared and his lips tightened into a line when the curly-haired guy stood beside him.  His scent filled the air and his mind began to become fuzzy because of nervousness. The man held on the railing after he pulled out his book. He turned away at first, but as he started calming down, he stole glances from him. He saw that he’s reading a Haruki Murakami book and that his name is Inagaki Goro. He saw his name etched on the handkerchief slightly peeking out of his breast pocket.

Shingo was so busy trying to look and find more information about the man that when the train suddenly made a halt he was pushed through the man. The man dropped his book and Shingo picked it up so fast and gave it to him.

“I’m sorry!” he half-shouted, his face becoming a bright red. He looked outside and he saw that this station was his stop. He bowed again in apology and dashed out of the train. He was already in the exit when he stopped to catch his breath. Gosh, what the hell was he doing?

He heard some rumbling, then the sound of the rain pouring steadily on the ground. He looked up and he felt more defeated. He wasn’t able to bring his umbrella that day. He was deciding whether to wait for the rain to stop or just run towards his workplace when he heard another sound, a gentle voice talking to him.

“Excuse me.”

Shingo slowly turned towards the source of the voice. He almost forgot how to breathe when he saw the curly young man named Goro smiling at him as he clutched an umbrella.

“I want to ask where you are headed.”

Shingo pointed the street on their right. Goro smiled wide. “That’s also where I’m headed. It seems you don’t have an umbrella. If you want, you can share with me.”

“O-Okay.”

Goro opened his umbrella and he put it over their heads. They started walking in silence. Shingo noticed Goro was having a hard time holding the umbrella. He was towering over the man. Without saying anything, he gently pulled the umbrella from Goro’s grasp. The smaller man looked up at him in surprise, but his expression changed to a smile.

Shingo tried his best to start a conversation. “I-I didn’t know that you’re working around here. I mean I didn’t see you going out with the other passengers in this station.”

“Oh, about that. My boss decided to transfer me in the other office here.”

“I see.”

They walked in silence again until Goro held his arm. “Here is my workplace.” Then he pulled him to the side under the roofed entrance of the building. The warmth of Goro’s hand going through his sleeves onto his skin made him feel amazed. “You can return the umbrella to me next time.”

“But-”

Goro smiled gently at him. “It’s okay, the rain will stop later anyway.”

“Okay then, thanks.”

“You’re welcome.” Goro’s smile never faltered.

Shingo started walking again and when he looked back, Goro was still watching him and he felt himself blush when he waved at him.

The next morning, Shingo had been already on the train with the umbrella. He made sure he was not late, just like before when he met Goro. He looked at the door at the other side of the train and when it opened, Goro stepped in. Their eyes met then they both smiled. They uttered the words that they have been trying to say to each other the first time they met.

“Good morning”
