Note: I don't know where this is going.

It’s now or never. He should do this now. He has wasted enought time already.

Glancing over the sakura trees casting shadows on the school fields below, he tried his best to calm himself. His heart was pumping so hard in his chest that he couldn’t breathe properly. Confessing to someone shouldn’t be this hard, right?

He sighed.

He wondered where she was. He has been looking for her. It was already the end of classes. He knew she hasn’t gone home yet. She has activities with her club but she wasn’t there when he dropped by at their room.

It’s stupid but he doesn’t have a plan for this. He just suddenly had an idea that he would confess to her. Maybe he can do this next time?

Come on, don’t be a coward! He scolded himself.

He was already ascending the stairs to the third floor where their classroom was when he heard running footsteps coming towards him. He almost fell down when that someone bump to him.

“Ah, Shingo! I’m sorry!”

Hearing that familiar voice, he looked up and he saw the person he has been looking for. She was standing so close to him and he just realized that she was holding on his arm.

“M-Miho...” He became so flustered and his heart hammered once more in his chest.

Miho smiled at him, letting go of his arm. “Going somewhere?”

He gulped as he looked at his angelic face. “I-I was just...well...”

God, why was he stuttering?! Could she hear how loud his hearbeat was? He hoped not. That would be so embarrassing.

She tilted her head slightly, her smile never faltering. He loved that smile. He remembered that moment when he realized he has already fallen in love with her back in junior high school. He loved her personality, her kindness and her sweet smile she always give to everyone. He never tried telling his feelings because it might just be a mere crush but it’s been years already and she never left his mind once. He was so glad they entered the same high school and they also became classmates.

It’s now or never...

“Miho!” He started.

“Yes?”

“I’m sorry...but you see...I... I’ve been in love with you this whole time. I really, really love you. Will you have me?”

Miho’s eyes widened as she blushed. Shingo was feeling embarrassed and nervous. There’s an awkward silence between them as they looked at each other. His heart felt heavier as seconds ticked by.

A shrill sound of a phone made Miho flinch. She reached in her bag to get the cell phone. She answered it and said: “Inagaki-senpai...”

Shingo’s heart fell down into his stomach as he averted his eyes away from hers. He tried to not mind what she’s saying but when he realized that their senpai, Inagaki Goro, just asked Miho to meet him so they can go home together, he felt like his heart was pierced by a knife.

When the call was finished, he looked once again at Miho and he saw her worried eyes. That’s when he opened his mouth to let out a forced laugh.

“You thought it was real, didn’t you? I was only practicing, did I shocked you?” he said as he continued laughing.

Miho swatted his arm. “I was shocked, okay. You scared me!”

She sighed in relief much to Shingo’s dismay but he hid his sadness within and he just grinned.

“Well, I’ll be going now. See you tomorrow.” Miho waved at him as she walked away.

“Sure. Take care.” He waved back as he smiled. When she turned the corner, Shingo let his arm fall by his side and his bright smile turned into a bitter one.

He wanted to laugh as he think back at the excuse he made. He looked so stupid and so pathetic. The hell with this. He knew he can’t amount that much compared to that senpai of theirs. Goro is very popular in their school, just like their other senpai Kimura Takuya, though the latter is much popular. But still...

“Shingo!”

He stopped walking then he looked back at the person who was calling him. He tsk’d exaggerately when she came near. “What do you want, Arisa?” he asked, pretending that he’s annoyed.

He earned a weak punch on his arm. “I saw Miho a while ago, she looked so happy.”

“I heard she’s going home with her beloved senpai.” He said with a grin but Arisa knew he’s just pretending.

“Let’s go home together?”

“Sure.”

They started walking in silence with Arisa trudging from behind. When Shingo glanced outside, she glanced too and she saw Inagaki-senpai with Miho. Miho looked so radiant and she was giggling as Goro told something funny. She could also see their hands sort of touching each other as they walked side by side.

“It was such a nice sunset, right?” Shingo suddenly said as he looked at her.

“Yeah.” She smiled but Shingo never saw how that smile disappered as he looked away.

Glancing once again at the window, she saw her friend Matsu Takako surrounded by Kimura Takuya, another popular guy in their school; Nakai Masahiro, the captain of the baseball team; and Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, a shy but one of the smartest students in the school.

She felt envious of Matsu. She wondered how it felt like to be pretty and to be liked by everyone. She knew she was not that pretty, she was the tomboyish type and her hair was always not in its place but she liked what she is, it’s just that there are times that she couldn’t help but wonder what it feels like to be loved back by the person she loved.

She sighed as she looked towards Shingo.

“I want to eat some ramen.” She said quielty.

“Eh? Aren’t you sick and tired of that yet? We always eat ramen every time we go home.” Shingo said.

“Come on, please?” she pleaded.

“Okay, fine.” Shingo said as if he’s annoyed.

"Thank you!"

She felt Shingo smile. "That's what childhood friends are for."

She smiled too as she moved forward to walk beside him. Well, she’s okay with this. As long as she’s with the person she loved, it will be fine. Even though he doesn’t love her back.
