Arashi ni Shiyagare: Higashiyama Noriyuki Part 2

Jan 19, 2011 13:56

First off, thanks for all the comments. Now, here's part two. It's insanely long and I'm not really doing too well mentally, so this is all I can do to keep myself occupied. I actually skipped school... Anyway, I hope you enjoy the second part to this epic episode. Again, I ask that you don't repost this translation. Enjoy.

[Inquire Brother Higashiyama’s riddled with mystery, rumors]

Narration: First up in the line-up is inquiring Higashiyama’s riddled with mystery rumors.

Sho: Once again, let me introduce our Brother Guest, Higashiyama Noriyuki. Look forward to working with you!
Everyone: Yay! Look forward to working with you!
Sho: First off, we’re heading straight into the rumors section of the show.
[Discuss Higashiyama’s Rumors]
Sho: Right now rumors about Higashiyama-san will be shown. In the event that the rumor is not true, please deny them. Let’s go.

[It appears that for the New Year’s gift, 500,000yen2 is given to the juniors]

Audience: Huh?
Everyone: This is true. Absolutely true
Audience? EH?
Higashiyama: Actually, oppositely, when the entire 500,000yen is passed out, I’m estatic.
Matsumoto: Wait, do you also give it to the juniors that just entered the agency?
Higashi: Well, as you expected, there’s a ton of juniors.
(Sho; How many hundreds...)
Higashi: In Tokyo Dome, there were 300 people were assigned there, so that’s why I wasn’t able to go to Tokyo Dome.
(Matsumoto: Really?)
Nino: You know, it’s gratifying, isn’t it. On the second floor, while eating the new year offerings with everyone, (Sho: The New Year) From Higashiyama-san comes, “Here, Arashi,” aren’t you happy?
Aiba: Definitely. Then, when it was handed to us, weren’t they crisp bills? (Nino: That’s right.) That made me really happy.
Higashi: Actually, I ironed them one by one!
Everyone: You’re lying!
Higashi: Do you guys give New Year presents?
Everyone: Er, we don’t.
Matsumoto: I don’t know when to hand them out.
Higashi: Like, “You there, here.”
Matsumoto: Well, but the other seniors, they also receive from Higashiyama. (Big note here. From what I can make out, Jun marks Higashi as receiving money, but somehow in this context it sounds wrong. Can anyone help?
Higashi: But it seems like [Domouto] Koichi (Kinki Kids) hands them out.
Everyone: Oh, really?
Higashi: Other people like Takizawa Hideaki and Imai Tsubasa (Takki and Tsubasa) also give them out. That’s why the juniors are the richest!
Sho: Oh that’s right. When Doumoto and Takizawa do their stage plays…
Nino: They start in the new year.
Sho: They might give it to the juniors who are also in the play!
Matsumoto: This year, we’re doing our concert in January. (Sho: Yup)
Higashi: Johnny’s junior are included?
Sho: Wait, I didn’t think so…
Aiba: They’re included!
(Nino: Were they juniors…?)
Matsumoto: Fo… Uh, Fou… Like fourteen of them.
Higashi: You should give it (New Year presents) to them! Everyone will be happy.
Sho: Well, but you see…
Higashi: But looking at the rumors, it seems like Nino is fairly stingy!
Nino: No no
Matsumoto: You picked up on it?
Higashi: Why is it? Because you’re a freeter?

[The food reserves appear to be 1000 year eggs and mozzarella cheese]

Sho: This I didn’t know
Everyone: What is this? 1000 year eggs and mozerella
Higashi: It’s true that I have to have these in my fridge.
Sho: Do you cook every day?
Higashi: Yes, of course.
(Sho: Amazing!)
Sho: Do you have some food obsession?
Higashi: Ultimately Japanese-based
Sho: Like healthy foods
Higashi: Well, as you get older, eating healthy is the only thing you can eat.
Sho: So, when you go out with people from the office, isn’t there Italian food? In those times, don’t you eat everything if there’s no choice?
Higashi: Pretty much. (Not sure of his answer, but it seems right…)
Sho: Then, are you concerned?
Higashi: I exercise instead under those conditions.
Matsumoto: You really exercise.
Nino: I see, you exercise instead.
Sho: In mentioning exercise, you train everyday?
Higashi: Training is everday!
Sho: Running?
Higashi: There’s also running… If I don’t do everything

[Training, apparently, is everyday]

Nino: Excuse me, but I heard a rumor of when he did Kuitan3. For the drama, you absolutely had to eat. So, on the days where there a lot of eating scenes, when you were finished, “Hm, I think I ate too much,” you’d run from Ikuta stage back home as is.
Higashi: Not from Ikuta4 stage, but I have repeatedly run home from work.
(Aiba: Eh?)
Nino: Huh? Not from Ikuta?
Higashi: Not even from Ikuta.
Aiba: Approximately how many kilometers?
Higashi: It has to be about 10 kilometers.5 Actually, it doesn’t take me more than an hour.
Aiba: Whoa, speedy!
Nino: Are you serious? (M: Doesn’t take you an hour? H: It doesn’t)
Aibia: There’s something I want to ask. Higashiyama-san used limit oxygen during sleep?
Higashi: There was a time I did that, but I sleep normally now. Do you know what the quintessential thing to build when doing to ultimate training?
Everyone: No idea.
Higashi: The blood.
____: The blood?
Nino: Just listen for a moment!
Matsumoto: I just felt the feeling of “we’re going as far as there?6”

[It appears the ultimate training is building the blood]
Higashi: As the blood circulation gets better, the problem is how to use this circulation.
Nino: Isn’t good circulation the goal? (Higashi: Yes, that’s it) Like there was a time you enter a tent on Fuji-san----
Higashi: I actually did that.
Nino: Mount Fuji or something?
Higashi: I went about as far as Mount Everest. [where the oxygen was low]
Nino: At one point there was a rumor that you went there to your oxygen saturation to Everest levels, and you were panting while sleeping.
Higashi: That’s actually a true story.
Nino: It’s a true story?
Sho: The rumor that I heard was that after sleeping in that tent that lately Higashiyama-san developed altitude sickness.
Higashi: That’s actually a lie.
Nino: It came out, it came around.7
Higashi: I actually did that kind of training.
Ohno (finally piping up): How many sit-ups do you do?
Higashi: It’s settled at 1000 per day.
Audience: EH?
Higashi: Well, this is the reaction… But in fact, I have to build a body that doesn’t tire. At the concerts, I dance and sing, but I also have to do the MC. If I stand there panting, it looks bad, doesn’t it. So being in tip top shape is my belief.
Everyone: Oh…
Higashi: Everyone in the world has an image of some idiot doing training now.
Nino: Not at all!
Higashi: Is this person crazy or something?
Everyone: Not at all!

2 With the current exchange rate, it’s about 6,000USD
3 2006 winter drama NHK. 2007 winter drama Kuitan 2. Both Saturday
4 Ikuta is a name of a stage
5 approx 6 miles (perhaps around 6-7min per mile)
6 Higashi asked earlier how in depth the talk could go.
7 I think he’s referring to a lie coming out
