This is by far one of the most beautifully crafted stories I have ever read. It reads like a dream and reaches inside to hold your heart in its hands.
When James T Kirk is a child, he befriends a star, and as he grows and shines, so too does she.
Jim grows up as the beloved of a star, but he's even luckier than that when he falls in love with Spock and his affections are returned; for, as Chara the star says, 'Not all stars are in the sky'. There's sorrow and sadness and love and loss, and warmth and hope and joy reborn, and I love, love this story for its gifts.

This story packs a mighty punch, and every time I read it I can't help but cry. The ending always lifts me up, and I feel better for it afterwards. Somehow, this story always makes me feel...alive.
