su's reaction to lisa's letter

so i can remember what i wrote.

Su stared at the letter in shock. She had made the weekly trek to the Muggle post office in downtown Shanghai, expecting nothing more than unsolicited mail. Instead, she had found one of the rare letters from back home, from her one contact in England, Lisa. Getting back to the house, she went into her room, locking her door with a quick wave of her wand, and carefully opened the letter, expecting the usual news about the latest battle, the hurt, the dead. A couple weeks back, she had gotten the news that Cho Chang had died, her parent's best friends' daughter. She had resented Cho's presence in her life, since their parents always competed over who had the better daughter. But now...no competition ever. Cho was dead, and she couldn't even tell her parents since, as far as they knew, the entire family had cut off all ties to England.

But this was different. This letter was telling her that she didn't have to hide anymore, that she could stop feeling like she betrayed her friends. This meant that she could get away from the overcrowded streets of Shanghai, full of a thousand different odors and sounds. The pitying looks from her family and neighbors would stop; she could be a continent away from certain people. She didn't need her parents approval, she was twenty-four, not twelve, like her parents treated her.

Picking up a quill, she quickly began writing letters to Stoatshead Hill. If she was going to leave, she was going to need to have everything prepared and planned, have an answer to every question her parents could ask.
